Grants and Writing Resources for Adelphi University
In July 2026 Adelphi reported that two members of the Class of 2026 had won Fulbright English Teaching Assistant awards. One finished the five-year Scholar Teacher Education Program with a master's in childhood education and a TESOL certificate, and will spend a year teaching English at an elementary school in Athens, Greece. The other, a political science and Spanish graduate, is placed in public schools in Madrid. In June 2025, the Press Club of Long Island gave The Delphian second place for Best College Newspaper, and two of its student writers placed in the features and editorial/commentary categories.
Summer Fellowships and the Spring Conference
Undergraduate research at Adelphi runs through the SPARK Center (Scholars Pursuing Arts, Research and Knowledge). A student begins by finding a faculty adviser, and the project usually grows out of that adviser's research or creative work. Summer research fellowships in 2026 paid a $4,000 stipend for eight weeks of full-time research or creative work, and every department and major is eligible. Fellows finish with a written report and a talk at the Scholarship and Creative Works Conference. In 2026 the program named 20 fellows, 12 of them through the Honors College.
That conference is the Scholarship and Creative Works Conference, where hundreds of undergraduates and graduate students present research, scholarship and creative projects each spring. The 2026 edition paired poster, ePoster and oral sessions with gallery talks on student art theses and a 24-Hour Play Festival from the theatre department. SPARK is also hosting the first Adelphi New York Undergraduate Humanities Conference in November 2026 at the university's Manhattan Center on Fifth Avenue, with undergraduates from universities in the tri-state region presenting in themed panels.
Honors Theses and Their Prizes
Every senior in the Honors College completes a year-long thesis. Work on the research question starts in the second semester of junior year, and the finished thesis is defended before a committee of faculty experts. A humanities or social science thesis runs to about 50 pages with a literature review. In the sciences the thesis is an extended lab report, and in the arts it is a substantial new work; both carry an introduction of 10 to 15 pages.
The Charles H. Levermore Prize goes to the best senior thesis. Four more prizes, named for Ruth St. Denis, Frank Dickinson Blodgett, James H. Post and Warren Eickelberg, recognize the best work in the arts and humanities, the health sciences, the social sciences and the natural sciences. SPARK gave a Best Senior Thesis Award and a Best Research Mentor Award in 2026.
Where Student Work Appears
Honors students publish creative and scholarly work in Symposium, the Honors College's online magazine. Students write and edit every issue, and Adelphi University Libraries publish the digital edition. It started as a print journal; Honors students rebuilt it online in 2022.
The Delphian turned 75 in 2026 and publishes every three weeks. Any student can send in writing, photos or a story idea.
National Awards and Graduate Funding
The Office of Prestigious Awards and Fellowships advises students applying for national competitions. Recent Adelphi winners have taken a Goldwater Scholarship, the PPIA Junior Summer Institute award, Critical Language Fellowships, and Fulbright research and English teaching awards. Some of these awards need a university nomination, and Adelphi's internal deadline can come before the national one. The office confirms the campus date.
For graduate students, Adelphi offers professional development funding, including support to attend regional, national and international conferences. Graduate assistantships are part-time academic appointments in teaching, research, administration or traineeships, and research assistants may collect data, analyze databases and do library research. The graduate aid page says assistantships come with tuition remission and sometimes a stipend. It also lists a PhD in Nursing Award of up to $2,138 a semester for doctoral students who started in fall 2026.
Writing Tutors and Librarians
The Center for Academic Support and Enrichment (CASE), formerly the Learning and Writing Centers, offers free peer tutoring in Room 132 of the Nexus Building. Writing tutors work on thesis construction, research, grammar, language use and citation. Sessions can be one-on-one or in groups, in person or online.
For help finding sources, Adelphi University Libraries run Ask a Librarian and take appointments with librarians.
Once an Adelphi paper, honors thesis or dissertation has its argument in place, our editors can give it a final edit for grammar, consistency and format.
