Grants and Writing Resources for Arkansas State University
In February 2026 an A-State junior from Hot Springs, a double major in accounting and finance, was named one of 15 fellows for the Public Policy and International Affairs Junior Summer Institute at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. The seven-week program in Cambridge was scheduled for June 14 to July 31, with round-trip travel, room and board and a $2,000 stipend. Fellows are also eligible for graduate school scholarships at the schools in the PPIA consortium.
Money for Research and Conference Travel
Full-time A-State Jonesboro students working with an A-State faculty member can apply for the Student Research & Creativity Development Award. It covers supplies, travel and fees for a research or creative project, and a student can receive it once per academic year. The same office lists the state's Student Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF), funded through the Arkansas Department of Education for faculty-mentored undergraduate research of all types. Undergraduates need 30 completed hours before the fellowship starts.
Presenting at a conference is a separate request. The Office of Student Research and Scholarship gives research travel funds of up to $500 per student to full-time undergraduate and graduate students with an accepted abstract, or the equivalent in their field, such as an audition. Recipients then present at the next Create@State.
Where Student Work Appears
Create@State has run for more than 15 years. Graduate and undergraduate students, on campus and online, bring a year of mentored research or creative work to a day of performances, a Creative Showcase and a large poster session. Faculty, industry experts, community leaders, alumni and administrators judge the posters.
The Tributary, a literary magazine organized and edited by students to represent the creative work of the student body, comes out each spring. The Herald is the student newspaper. At the Arkansas College Media Association's 2025 spring conference, A-State student media won 60 awards, 52 of them for The Herald, Website of the Year among them. Honors College students write a research thesis under a thesis advisor and committee, and recent ones are posted in the Honors Theses collection.
National Awards and Graduate Funding
The Office of Student Research and Scholarship helps current students apply for competitive scholarships and fellowships. Its list runs from the Goldwater and Gilman scholarships for undergraduates to the Truman Scholarship, the Fulbright U.S. Student Program and the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, which funds three years of a research-based STEM master's or PhD.
The Graduate School fills more than 250 assistantships a year in three kinds: teaching, research and administrative support. Graduate students also take part in the Three Minute Thesis Competition.
Writing Help and Theses
The Writing Center works with students in Dean B. Ellis Library or online, by appointment through Penji, on class papers, résumés and graduate school essays. Tutors start with the big picture and coach writers to spot common errors, organize ideas and hold a steady tone. For graduate students working on theses or dissertations, the center recommends weekly 45-minute sessions.
ARCH, the A-State Research & Creativity Hub, holds theses and dissertations along with capstone projects and conference presentations.
Before a thesis goes to the committee or a fellowship essay goes out, our editors can give it a final edit for grammar, consistency and format.
