Grants and Writing Resources for Ateneo de Manila University

In The Hague, against 85 universities from 45 countries, five Ateneo students reached the championship round of the 2025 International Criminal Court Moot Court Competition and finished first runner-up overall. A teammate was named best speaker of the final round. The same spring, the university recognized 33 students in the Ateneo College Awards in the Arts for SY 2024–2025, six of them in creative writing. Each year one master's or doctoral candidate writing on women and gender can receive the Research Grant on Women & Gender, which can pay up to six units of tuition and fees, a fieldwork subsidy, or both.

Prizes for Writers and Artists

Senior students in the Loyola Schools can be named in the yearly arts awards listed on the Awards and Grants page, which in 2025 honored work in creative writing, theater, screen arts, visual arts, dance, and music. The Department of Fine Arts lists the honors its students compete for on its Awards and Grants page. They include the Mulry Award for Literary Excellence, given to a graduating honors student who has also done outstanding creative writing. The same page describes the ASCEND award for student projects that take on a serious social concern.

Research Funding

Graduate students can apply for Conference Presentation Grants, which support graduate students presenting their research orally at academic conferences. An endorsement from the thesis adviser or a professor is part of the application. Students who publish peer-reviewed work under an Ateneo affiliation are eligible for the University Scholarly Publication Awards.

Undergraduates can join faculty research beyond their coursework under the university's Guidelines on Undergraduate Research, Creative Work, and Innovation. Those guidelines require that students be listed as co-authors on papers their work contributes to. Funded projects must pay them.

Funding for Thesis Research on Women and Gender

The University Gender and Development Office has offered a Research Grant on Women & Gender to one master's or doctoral candidate each year, most recently for SY 2025–2026. It's for students whose approved thesis, dissertation, or capstone topic deals with women and gender. The grant can pay up to six units of tuition and fees across two semesters of the writing phase, a fieldwork subsidy, or both, and it can be combined with other scholarships.

Where Theses Are Published

Finished theses and dissertations go into Archīum Ateneo, the university's online repository under Rizal Library, organized by school and department. Rizal Library takes requests for help by email and through each school's designated team librarians. Its site also links Turnitin and the university's own Ateneo journals.

For a final edit before submission, our PhD-level editors work with Ateneo students at every level. See our Ateneo de Manila University dissertation and thesis editing page, or write to editors@editorsforstudents.com.
