Grants and Writing Resources for Auburn University at Montgomery
An AUM sophomore took first place for Best Program Exposition Poster at the 2026 UTeach STEM Educators Conference in Austin, where participants came from 53 UTeach programs. The student, an Honors chemistry major with a minor in STEM Education, presented a poster titled "Digital Divide and Academic Integrity: AI and Inequality in Southern Education." AUMTeach paid for the trip.
Showing Research
The annual Celebration of Research and Creative Activity draws students from all five AUM colleges, who give posters and oral presentations to faculty, staff and other students. The Experiential Education and Engagement Center and the Office of the Provost also put money into faculty-led research opportunities for undergraduates.
The College of Sciences keeps its symposium abstracts in the AUM digital archives. The 2025 proceedings, from the April 18, 2025 symposium, hold 24 abstracts from undergraduate and graduate presenters.
Honors Awards and the Honors Thesis
Candidates for the Deichelmann Memorial Scholarship, which AUM calls its most prestigious and which is worth a total of $44,000 over four years, also apply to the University Honors Program. The program holds a modest fund for university-sponsored student travel, with awards from $250 to $2,000 depending on funds and need. A separate scholarship covers costs such as academic conference travel and materials required for research.
Honors students write a senior thesis over two courses, HONR 3957 and HONR 4957, with a committee of two full-time faculty members. The thesis guidelines allow creative projects with committee approval, and every thesis has a public component such as a defense.
Graduate Funding
Fully admitted graduate students with at least nine AUM credit hours and a 3.4 GPA can apply for the AUM Alumni Association Graduate Merit Scholarship, which pays $1,000 toward graduate tuition for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027. The application asks for a 250-word essay, two letters of support and a résumé. Students in fully online programs are ineligible.
In the Master of Liberal Arts, graduate research assistantships pay $1,500 a semester for about eight hours of work a week, and the program encourages the thesis track for students headed to a Ph.D. The College of Education's Graduate Incentive Scholarship takes $100 per credit hour off tuition for students in face-to-face graduate programs.
Writing Tutors and Thesis Deposit
Writing tutors in the Learning Center work with undergraduate and graduate students in every course. Sessions take place on the second floor of the library or over Zoom, by appointment or as a drop-in, and the tutors are trained to help students writing in English as a second language.
Graduate students finishing a thesis start with the library's AUM Thesis Guidelines guide. The thesis and its clearance forms go to the AUM Library, which adds completed theses to its digital repository. For honors work, the Honors Thesis Guidelines ask students to proofread each draft for typographical errors and correct style before sending it to a mentor, so the mentor can focus on substance.
Before a thesis goes to your committee or the library, our editors can give it a final edit for grammar, consistency and format.
