Grants and Writing Resources for Bethel University

On February 25, 2025, four Bethel undergraduates gave a 30-minute presentation to technology transfer officers at NASA. As the university's Innovation Scholars team, they had reviewed two NASA patents and built a go-to-market strategy for the Full-Spectrum Infrasonic Stethoscope from NASA Langley Research Center, a device that picks up frequencies the human ear cannot hear. That December the university reported that a Spanish and business marketing double major had written a manuscript of about 30 pages with her faculty mentor on justice in the Don Juan myth, reading four works from El Burlador de Sevilla (1630) to d.juan@simetrico.es.

Paid Summer Research and Travel Grants

The Edgren Scholars Program funds up to two summer partnerships between College of Arts and Sciences faculty and students. Under the program manual updated in February 2024, the student receives a $3,500 stipend, up to $500 covers supplies and equipment, and the work runs at least 10 weeks full time. Pairs present the next school year at a campus forum. Past projects, listed on the Recent Edgren Scholars page, range from starling hormones to machine learning in the digital humanities.

The Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarship sets aside conference travel support of up to $300 per student. Applicants need an accepted poster or oral presentation and a collaborating faculty member's permission to present the results. In biology, the C. Weldon Jones Research Scholarships fund summer work with a faculty mentor for juniors and seniors who have completed BIO/ENS399 Intro to Research, and a companion research assistant program takes freshmen and sophomores. Chemistry runs a Summer Research Fellowship, and the department says all of its student researchers present at a regional or national conference.

Showcases, Prizes and Student Publications

Science students from six departments, applied health sciences through psychological sciences, presented faculty-mentored projects and internships at the Sciences Presentation and Poster Session on May 10, 2025. The library's Primetime Presentations are talks on teaching, research and service, and recordings stay online. The Innovation Scholars Program, part of Bethel since 2014, puts undergraduate teams under MBA or MAOL students to evaluate innovations tied to Mayo Clinic, biomedical companies and NASA's patent portfolio.

Coeval is the undergraduate literary and art magazine, edited by students in the Publishing and Being Published course and sponsored by the English and Journalism Department. It prints poetry, fiction, prose and visual art. The Jerry Healy Poetry Prize, set up by the family of a late Bethel English professor, is open to College of Arts and Sciences students. Since 2020 the Library Research Prize has been limited to first-year students in Inquiry Seminar or Humanities III whom a professor nominates. Entries pair a paper or project with an essay on the research process, and the SPARK collection holds winners from 2010 through 2021. Student reporters put out The Clarion, a bi-weekly newspaper.

Graduate Scholarships

Two awards on Bethel's graduate grants and scholarships list reach $15,000. The HRSA-SDS Nurse-Midwifery Scholarship pays $15,000 a year toward tuition plus about $2,172 for clinical travel in the 2026-27 cycle, for full-time students with financial need or a disadvantaged background. The MSW Social Work Scholarship gives new Master of Social Work students up to $15,000 for one academic year if they commit to a Minnesota school practicum and a year of work in a Minnesota school. For the fall 2026 entering class, the Brace New Student Nurse Midwifery Scholarship paid $1,000 per semester, renewable for up to three years. New students who are serving or have served in the U.S. armed forces, and students tied to a Bethel business partner, can each receive up to $1,200 a year.

Writing Help, Dissertations and SPARK

Undergraduates book the Writing Center in the Academic Enrichment and Support Center office, HC324, for 45-minute sessions with a peer tutor. Trained tutors meet with multilingual writers, and the one-credit Writing Studio for Multilingual Students is offered each semester.

Graduate, seminary and adult students use the Academic Resource Center. Its specialists hold 50-minute writing sessions by email or Zoom, one a week, and cover APA and Turabian format along with outlining and revision. Anyone writing a thesis or capstone of 50 pages or more may book two back-to-back appointments each week. The Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership builds its dissertation into three courses, with advisors and committee members guiding each stage.

Finished work goes into SPARK, the library's open-access repository, where Doctor of Ministry projects and education dissertations date from 2015 and collections also hold nurse-midwifery, physician assistant and seminary master's theses. Undergraduates can submit faculty-sponsored work such as senior seminar papers, honors projects and conference posters.

Before a thesis goes to SPARK or a capstone goes to a committee, our editors can give it a final edit for grammar, consistency and format. See our Bethel University dissertation and thesis editing and Bethel University essay editing pages, or write to editors@editorsforstudents.com.
