Grants and Writing Resources for California State University, Fullerton

Ten Cal State Fullerton students took their research to the 40th annual CSU Student Research Competition at San José State in 2026, and they came back with three awards. A computer science undergraduate placed first in the interdisciplinary category, competing against graduate researchers too, and added an AI-enabled research award. A chemistry graduate student placed second in biological and agricultural sciences.

Research Days and Competitions

Student Creative Activities and Research Day gives CSUF students a campus venue for research, scholarship, and creative work. It falls during Research Week, which the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs hosts each April, and every UROC fellowship recipient attends.

Travel Grants

The Undergraduate Research Opportunity Center pairs student fellows with faculty mentors on research and creative projects. Its UROC Student Travel Grant pays travel and registration costs for conferences, performances, and art exhibitions where a student is taking part in research or creative work. When the university announced it in 2024, the grant was open to all CSUF students at $200 to $750.

A Prize for Graduate Theses

The Giles T. Brown Thesis Excellence Award honors completed thesis work that could make an impact in its field. Each graduate program may put forward one student, by faculty nomination. Winners' names go on a perpetual plaque, and Graduate Studies announced its 2025 winners in a campus news story.

Student Journals and Theses

DASH Literary Journal has been published since 2008 by the Creative Writing Club and undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of English, Comparative Literature, and Linguistics. Students produce it through English 515, a course in proofreading, editing, and journal production. DASH takes poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, micro literary criticism, hybrid work, and art.

Graduate theses and dissertations go through a final check by the University Reader in Graduate Studies. The 2026 Thesis/Dissertation Quick Start guide says approved PDFs are then published on Zenodo and ScholarWorks.

Writing Support

The Graduate Studies Center offers free one-hour writing appointments on Zoom with trained Writing Consultants, one per week, booked through TitanNet. Consultants work with students on any assignment in a graduate program. The center also runs academic and professional development workshops, and the University Learning Center sends graduate students there for writing help.
