Grants and Writing Resources for Chaminade University of Honolulu
Chaminade undergraduates brought more than two dozen projects to Na Liko Na'auao, the university's annual research symposium, on April 16, 2025. A few months later the Summer Research Institute, run with Kapiʻolani Community College, closed with a July symposium of its own. Topics ran from AI in interior design to psychosocial interventions for adults with autism or ADHD.
Presenting Research
Nā Liko Naʻauao is open to undergraduate, graduate and early college students who have a faculty sponsor and work finished within the past year. You can present a talk or a poster, or show artwork, video or a portfolio, before peers, faculty and the public. Students who presented at a conference with Chaminade funding are required to present here as well, and the day ends with certificates and awards.
In the natural sciences, Undergraduate Research & Inquiry places biology and biochemistry majors in semester or summer research internships from sophomore year, funded by program grants such as INBRE and LSAMP or by outside partners. The program sends 20 to 22 students a year to the national SACNAS and ABRCMS meetings. At the 2024 symposium, the President Sue Wesselkamper Award recognised students with at least a 3.5 GPA, independent research beyond class requirements, presentations on and off campus, and extensive community and university service.
Student Publications
Students write, edit and illustrate Aulama, the student literary and art magazine, under the direction of English faculty. The Silversword, the online student newspaper, is produced by students with Communication faculty.
Help With Writing
Kōkua ʻIke offers tutoring and academic coaching to undergraduate and graduate students, in person in Room 108 or over Google Meet for students who don't come to the Kaimukī campus. For citation questions, the Sullivan Family Library keeps a Citations/Writing guide.
