Grants and Writing Resources for Clark University

Two Clark students earned Fulbright Awards in 2026 to carry out research abroad. A master's student in geographic information science, finishing through Clark's 4+1 Accelerated Master's program, will spend 2026-2027 in Brazil on cultural and geospatial research into large-scale agricultural expansion in the country's northeast. A biochemistry and molecular biology major from the class of 2026 will work in a lab at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, studying immune health in mice after embryo-transfer pregnancies.

Presenting Research

Clark undergraduates have presented their research and creative work every year since 1991. The spring event once called Academic Spree Day and the fall event once called Fall Fest now run as the spring and fall editions of ClarkFEST, where students show posters, give oral presentations, sit on panels, and exhibit art and interactive media. Taking part requires an invitation from a sponsoring faculty member.

Fellowships and Research Grants

Undergraduates with an original research, creative, public service or enrichment project can apply for the Steinbrecher Fellowship Program, which is endowed in perpetuity and funds five to seven students a year. Past fellows have studied food insecurity in Chile and microbial communities at Walden Pond.

Doctoral students have a newer source of support. In 2026 Clark launched the Clark University Dissertation Improvement Grant program and named seven doctoral students as its first recipients, covering costs that regular funding doesn't reach, such as fieldwork, specialized equipment, travel, participant incentives and professional transcription or editing. PhD students in Holocaust and genocide studies also draw on more than twenty endowed funds at the Strassler Center, among them the Scheidt Doctoral Fellowship in Genocide Studies and the Charlotte Calfaian Doctoral Research Award in Armenian Genocide Studies.

Writing Contests

The English department hosts four writing contests with prizes each year. They are the Prentiss Cheney Hoyt Poetry Contest, the Betty '79 and Stanley Sultan Short Story Contest, the Loring Holmes & Ruth Dodd Drama Contest, and the Leroy Allston Ames Essay Contest. English students can also write an honors thesis with a faculty adviser.

Writing Help and Dissertations

The Clark University Writing Center gives all Clark students free one-to-one help in 50-minute, in-person sessions in the Academic Commons on the first floor of Goddard Library. Consultants work on everything from short papers and honors theses to graduate school applications and résumés. Sessions are interactive, and you're expected to bring questions and ideas.

Our editors work with Clark writers at the final-draft stage, from seminar papers to dissertations. See our Clark University dissertation and thesis editing and Clark University essay editing pages, or write to editors@editorsforstudents.com.
