Grants and Writing Resources for Creighton University
Five Creighton undergraduates took their posters to Madison Square Garden on March 14, 2026, for the BIG EAST Undergraduate Research Poster Symposium, and placed second overall as a team. A senior biochemistry major on the team also placed second in the Biomedical division for work on nanoparticles that deliver ALS drugs. In April a junior majoring in computer science, data science, and Spanish and Hispanic studies was named a 2026 Goldwater Scholar, one of 454 chosen nationwide, for research on AI for social impact.
Summer Fellowships and Travel Money
The Center for Undergraduate Research and Scholarship (CURAS) serves students in every Creighton school and college, and its research program is open to all majors. The Summer Undergraduate Research and Creative Fellowships pay a student stipend, cover research supplies and come with a discount on summer campus housing. Fellows do ten weeks of full-time research with a Creighton faculty member. CURAS counts more than 40 funded fellowships each summer, six of them paid for by an NIH INBRE grant.
Some of those fellowships belong to individual colleges. The Dean's fellowships in the Heider College of Business and the College of Nursing are limited to their students, and the College of Arts and Sciences fellowship is open to anyone in that college.
Students presenting at a conference can apply to CURAS for a travel grant. The 2021 application form budgets for airfare or mileage, hotel, ground transportation and registration. Applicants name a faculty research mentor and attach the acceptance notice.
Where Student Work Appears
CURAS reports that more than 400 Creighton students present research at conferences each year. CURAS also publishes QUEST: A Journal of Undergraduate Research, whose archive runs through Volume 8 in 2020 and includes articles in literature, philosophy, public health and computer security. The submission guidelines take essays, original creative writing and art. Each submission needs the name and recommendation of a faculty sponsor, and essays follow Chicago notes and bibliography style.
Law students edit two student-run journals. The Creighton Law Review, founded in 1967, publishes three issues a year with an emphasis on legal issues in Nebraska and the Eighth Circuit. The Creighton International and Comparative Law Journal began in 2011 and publishes about two issues a year on international and comparative law.
Graduate Research Awards
Biomedical Sciences graduate students who study hearing can compete for named awards. The Translational Hearing Center lists the Bellucci Graduate Scholarship, about $38,000 a year for three to four years, and the Bellucci Graduate Research Award of $10,000 for one year, with one competitive renewal. Its Dr. Richard J. Bellucci Research Awards give pilot funding to pre- and postdoctoral trainees in Biomedical Sciences labs whose mentors are affiliated with the center.
For external funding, the Department of Pharmacology and Neuroscience posts fellowship opportunities for doctoral students, among them the NIH Ruth L. Kirschstein predoctoral awards, the PhRMA Foundation Predoctoral Award and the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship.
The Writing Center and the Thesis
The English department runs the Writing Center, and it is available to all students. Its tutors help with clarity, grammar and how well a paper answers the assignment. The center's booking page describes sessions of about 25 minutes, with the option to book two in a row, and takes walk-ins when a slot is free.
Master's students register for Thesis 799 and doctoral students for Dissertation 899. Under the Graduate School's thesis and dissertation policy, a preliminary copy goes to the adviser at least two months before the degree is conferred, and the adviser and committee accept the final version at least two weeks before. Formatting specifications come from the department chair or the Graduate School. The finished work is submitted electronically to ProQuest, which sends a copy to the libraries for the Creighton Digital Repository.
Before a paper goes to a conference or a thesis goes to ProQuest, our editors can give it a final edit for grammar, consistency and format. See our Creighton University dissertation and thesis editing and Creighton University essay editing pages, or write to editors@editorsforstudents.com.
