Grants and Writing Resources for Dallas Theological Seminary
Dallas Theological Seminary's scholarships and discounts page lists more than 150 scholarships totaling more than $8 million, and at least ten of them are set aside for doctoral students. The Manke-Gretzinger Memorial Endowment Fund, for one, gives tuition aid and other financial help to PhD students in the Old Testament Department.
PhD Funding
The PhD has concentrations in Bible Exposition, New Testament, Old Testament and Theological Studies, and students who can't move to Dallas can ask about reduced residency, depending on the concentration. Several funds on the scholarships page follow those departments. The Jeff and Dana Barber PhD in Bible Exposition Term Endowment Scholarship Fund gives tuition help to an outstanding candidate chosen by the Bible Exposition Department, and the Glenn R. Kreider Endowed Scholarship Fund supports PhD students in Theological Studies who plan to teach in seminaries.
Other funds cut across fields. The Frank, Fern, and Doris Prince Endowment Fund makes scholarship awards to qualified PhD and international students. The For His NAME and Van Broekhoven Memorial funds serve international PhD students, and the Russell L. and Darlene C. Weiss Scholarship covers required textbooks from the DTS Book Center for full-time doctoral students. ThM, DMin and PhD students headed for full-time ministry can also apply to the Hesed Scholarship Fund, which can go toward tuition, books and living expenses.
A Fellowship for ThM Students
The William B. Dean, MD, Pastor Formation Fellowship is for newly accepted male ThM students on the Dallas campus, and the current page names the class entering in fall 2025. It takes 50% off tuition for the first 96 credit hours, makes the final 24 free and pays a $500 monthly stipend for the four years of the degree, provided fellows stay full time and keep a 3.00 GPA.
Writing and Style Help
The DTS Writing Center is open to all master's students. Writers can meet with the center on Teams or in person, or submit an assignment for review, and the center answers questions on DTS formatting, citations and grammar. Every event has an online option. Recorded workshops on academic writing and finding sources stay posted, and the center keeps the paper templates and thesis forms students need for DTS assignments, along with the official style guide.
Library Research Help
Turpin Library's research methods pages cover search skills, database tutorials and basic research method. Doctoral students preparing for a dissertation research consultation will find a guide there on how to get ready for one. Remote students in extension, online and non-resident programs have their own library services pages, and the library's Special Collections hold the seminary's archives and rare books.
