Grants and Writing Resources for De La Salle University
Almost 90 law students from 24 law schools argued as oralists at the Philippine National Rounds of the Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in February 2026. A Juris Doctor student at DLSU's law school posted the second-highest score of the preliminary rounds, and her team finished fifth. The same day the university reported two engineering wins. Industrial engineering students took first place in a quiz bee at IEshikawa 20, a nationwide event, and a team of four engineering students won Executives' Challenge XXI against 50 teams from 28 colleges and universities.
Paying for a Doctorate
The St. Miguel Febres Cordero PhD Scholarship waives tuition and miscellaneous fees and pays a monthly stipend of Php 35,000 for up to four academic years. The first two years go to coursework and exams, the last two to the dissertation. A full-time DLSU faculty member must sponsor each applicant with an endorsement letter. Scholars enroll full time, give 40 hours a week to study and research, and take no outside employment.
Engineering doctoral students have a second option. The Gokongwei College of Engineering's PhD Research Apprenticeship Program selects ten apprentices a year and lists a full tuition scholarship for up to three years, a P25,000 monthly stipend and a one-time P10,000 book allowance. Apprentices work as co-researchers in a research group and keep a GPA of 3.2 or higher.
Conference Subsidies
The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation pays part of the cost when a graduate student presents a paper. Under its 2016 guidelines, the Conference Subsidy for Graduate Students covers conferences that are ISI- or Scopus-abstracted or have indexed proceedings, at up to P15,000 for a local event and P30,000 for an international one. Students who already have ISI-indexed, Scopus-indexed or CHED-listed journal publications may apply for any national or international conference. Recent graduates qualify within a year of their last DLSU term, and undergraduates can apply in exceptional cases with a mentor's recommendation.
Under guidelines from the same year, a smaller non-ISI subsidy pays up to P4,000 for a local conference and P8,000 for an international one. It is for students with no journal publications yet. Within six months the grantee has to show that the paper was revised and submitted to a journal.
Liberal Arts Grants, Journals and Workshops
The College of Liberal Arts lists its research support for graduate students in one place: CLA Thesis-Dissertation Grants, publication and creative work incentives, mini-grants for creative writing, and Research Writing Fellowship Grants for projects a student carries out with a faculty member. Calls for applications go out through the Helpdesk Announcement. The same page names DLSU journals open to graduate work, among them the Asia Pacific Social Science Review, the Journal of English and Applied Linguistics, Akda, Ideya and the creative writing journal Tag-araw.
The Malate Literary Folio is the university's official literary and visual arts publication and comes out a week before the end of each trimester. It prints prose, poems, artwork and photographs from its undergraduate members. The Bienvenido N. Santos Creative Writing Center is a partner in the IYAS National Writers Workshop, held each summer in Bacolod City. The workshop awards twelve fellowships in fiction, poetry and drama, for work in English, Filipino, Cebuano or Hiligaynon.
Submitting the Thesis
Since March 2021 students have submitted theses and dissertations to the Animo Repository, the institutional repository run by DLSU Libraries. The upload is one PDF of the complete work with the approval sheet and a signed consent form in the preliminary pages, plus each chapter as a separate PDF. Students prepare an abstract of up to 1,000 words and up to ten keywords, and they coordinate the Final Defense Report with their department.
The library's step-by-step guide lists the parts a final ETD must contain, from the abstract and review of related literature to the references and appendices. Questions about databases, Turnitin or the upload go to Ask LORA, the Library Online Reference Assistant.
Before the final PDF goes up to the Animo Repository, our editors can check a thesis for grammar, consistency and format. See our DLSU dissertation and thesis editing and DLSU essay editing pages, or write to editors@editorsforstudents.com.
