Grants and Writing Resources for Fielding Graduate University
The Clinical Psychology DEI Committee gave its 2025 DEI Award to a doctoral student in clinical psychology that June. Faculty cited her work in the Social Justice and Diversity Concentration and the culturally responsive approach she brought to coursework and clinical training. The committee honors one student and one faculty member each year.
Dissertation Funding
Psychodynamic work has its own money at Fielding. The Alonso Center's Endowed Scholarship supports dissertation research that draws on psychodynamic ideas, treatments and principles, with awards of $500 to $1,000. The center's Frieda Fromm-Reichmann Award recognizes a doctoral student's excellence in psychodynamic theory, practice and research; it generally pays $1,000 to $2,000, is presented at summer session, and accepts self-nominations that have faculty support. The center also pays for students to attend and present at national psychoanalytic conferences.
Outside that track, the Office of Research says students can apply for conference funding and for university-funded research grants and dissertation awards through financial aid.
Scholarships
Current students apply each term through Fielding's Common Scholarship Application for scholarships that usually cover a single term and range from $500 to $10,000. Incoming students can be considered for the Provost Achievement Scholarship, generally $500 to $4,000 for the first term. Two awards target specific fields. The Dolores Bunnell Scholarship goes to up to three new doctoral students with work experience in infant or early childhood education, at $7,000 across three terms, and the Fielding Alumni Award for Student Sustainability Leadership funds up to three new doctoral students entering the Sustainability Leadership concentration.
Presenting and Publishing Research
Students and alumni present posters every year, some during Fielding's annual Session and some live online, where the research posters stay displayed for the community to view and discuss.
Collaborative publishing is rewarded. The Dr. Sally Peterson Research Excellence Award goes each year to a faculty-student team whose work appeared in a peer-reviewed publication the previous calendar year, and the team receives a $2,000 honorarium; nominations come from core faculty, program directors or academic leaders. For book-length work, Fielding University Press has published more than 40 faculty and alumni titles since 2014.
Research Help
The Dr. Dianne Kipnes Library is fully electronic and staffed by professional librarians, with about 300,000 ebooks, 60,000 scholarly journals and thousands of online dissertations. Its librarians hold research appointments and instructional seminars online or in person. The Office of Research adds an institutional Instats membership for statistical training, and its Office of Sponsored Programs helps researchers search for grants, build budgets and submit proposals. Doctoral students interested in democratic leadership and education can join a cohort of Marie Fielder Graduate Fellows working on a shared project.
