Grants and Writing Resources for George Fox University

George Fox's STUNT team lost to top-ranked Muskingum in Nashville on April 25, 2026, then beat the same team 25-20 the next day to win the Division III STUNT national championship, its second title in a row. Back in Newberg, the Richter Scholars Program pays undergraduates summer stipends of up to $5,700 for independent projects.

Research Funding

The Richter Scholars Program, paid for by the Paul K. Richter and Evalyn E.C. Richter Memorial Funds, supports independent research with a George Fox faculty mentor. Full-time undergraduates from sophomore standing up, and full-time graduate students, can apply with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Undergraduate requests usually stay under $8,200 and can cover a stipend, supplies and equipment, and travel to collect data; graduate students can request supplies and data-collection travel, typically up to $2,500, though no stipend. Stipend work has to happen in Oregon.

Once a project is funded, scholars can ask for separate travel money to present it at a professional conference. Scholars then record a research presentation in early spring and show a poster or exhibit at the Richter Symposium.

Writing Support

Traditional undergraduates get free writing help and academic coaching from peer consultants at the Academic Resource Center, on the first floor of Murdock Library on the Newberg campus.

Graduate and accelerated online students use the Virtual Learning Center, which meets online in 50-minute consultations, one a week. Consultants help with APA and Turabian, brainstorming and thesis development, and they'll work through a dissertation one chapter at a time. The coaching is free.

Student Publications

The Crescent has been the student newspaper since 1891, and its back issues are digitized in the university archives. Writing students can also work on The Wineskin, the literary journal, and eligible writing minors can join the campus chapter of Sigma Tau Delta for its publishing and convention opportunities.
