Grants and Writing Resources for Hampton University

Two seniors from Hampton's Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications were named WHCA scholarship recipients in 2026, to be recognized at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner in Washington on April 25. The association gave a record $156,000 that year, spread across 30 students nationwide.

Scholarships for Student Journalists

The WHCA set up a scholarship for Hampton. In 2025 it created a $5,000 award for one Scripps Howard student, and two fourth-year journalism majors received WHCA scholarships that spring.

Environmental reporting has its own prize. A second-year journalism major won the World Wildlife Fund's first Environmental Journalism Scholarship in 2025 through an essay competition, taking home $10,000 and a yearlong mentorship with WWF advisors.

Presenting Research

The STEM Weekend Research Symposium gives undergraduate and graduate students from the School of Science and the School of Engineering, Architecture, and Aviation a morning to present original research, engineering designs, and internship work. The 2026 edition was hosted by the National Society of Black Engineers chapter with eleven other STEM organizations.

Writing Support

The Writing Center, on the fifth floor of Harvey Library and sponsored by the School of Liberal Arts and Education, helps with developing and organizing a paper, building out its content, and pinning down a thesis statement. It reads résumés and cover letters too.

Graduate students writing a thesis or dissertation can ask the Graduate College for its list of approved editors. Using one is optional.

Where Theses Are Published

The Graduate College reviews every thesis and dissertation for formatting before it's accepted, following the current APA manual and its own Thesis and Dissertation Manual. Finished work is uploaded to ProQuest, which sends bound copies to the William R. Harvey Library. If a paper is in press or a patent is pending, students can ask for a one-year delay before the work becomes available.

When your draft is close and you want a careful last read, our editors are available. See our Hampton University dissertation and thesis editing and Hampton University essay editing pages, or write to editors@editorsforstudents.com.
