Grants and Writing Resources for Hanyang University

Fixwing, an IV catheter securement device designed by four fourth-year Industrial Design students at Hanyang's ERICA campus, made the James Dyson Award 2026 Global Top 20. It was the only entry from Korea to get there. The device holds a catheter in place without a separate taping step.

The Writing Center

Any enrolled undergraduate can book 1:1 writing tutoring through the Hanyang University Writing Center, in Korean, English or Spanish. There are two formats: a live 50-minute session with a tutor over Zoom, or a submitted draft that comes back with detailed written feedback within five days, excluding public holidays. Course assignments, reports and presentation scripts all qualify. So do self-introductions, interview scripts and web novels.

The Center also runs essay contests. The 2026 AI English Essay Contest is a two-hour on-site essay for up to 100 Seoul Campus undergraduates, with some English-related majors excluded, on a topic revealed that day; writers may brainstorm with ChatGPT but must cite any AI-generated text in footnotes. Seven prizes total KRW 2.5 million, led by a Grand Prize of KRW 1,000,000. In 2025 the Center held the AI-assisted Hanyang Lens Essay Contest, with cash prizes and certificates in the president's name.

Competition Results

Three Industrial Engineering graduate students, two in integrated bachelor's-master's programs and one in an integrated master's-PhD program, won the Minister of Foreign Affairs Award at the 2026 Foreign Diplomacy Public Data and AI Utilization Competition, where 244 teams took part. Their AI system sorts aid-recipient countries into four clusters from 60 to 70 indicators to support decisions on official development assistance.

At ERICA, a team of four from the Department of Marine Convergence Engineering took the top prize at the 2026 Ocean Engineering CAE Competition for a smart seagrass restoration platform. The award came with KRW 1,000,000.

Where to Follow Student Work

Student wins, Writing Center programs and contest calls are announced on NewsH, the university's official news portal, which runs an English section alongside the Korean one. Hanyang's English homepage links to it as Media Briefing.
