Grants and Writing Resources for Harding University

In fall 2025 the Arkansas Department of Higher Education gave Student Undergraduate Research Fellowships to three third-year Harding students, majoring in cybersecurity, molecular and cellular biology, and public administration. They were among 62 recipients from seven Arkansas universities. Harding was the only private university in the group.

Presenting Research

The Honors College and the Alpha Chi honor society cosponsor the Harding Undergraduate Research Conference, where students from across the university give research papers, posters and creative projects. At the fifth conference, in April 2026, 36 students gave more than 30 presentations of original research and creative scholarship to an audience of nearly 500, according to the Honors College annual report. Selected presentations are archived online. Honors students also take their work off campus; two presented research tied to their honors theses at the National Collegiate Honors Council meeting in San Diego in November 2025.

Research Funding

Each state SURF award pays $4,000 over two semesters and covers a stipend, research expenses and a presentation at a regional or national conference. Closer to home, the Trey Carlock Rising Scholar Award, funded by the Carlock family, paid conference travel and presentation costs for two honors students in 2025-26 (annual report).

Student Journals

Three student-centered journals are published on ScholarWorks at Harding. Ex Sapientia Loqui, published jointly by Alpha Chi and the Honors College, takes research from undergraduate and graduate students in any discipline and published its first volume in 2026. History and social science papers, mostly by undergraduates, appear in Tenor of Our Times, the annual journal of the Phi Alpha Theta chapter and the Department of History and Political Science. The Journal of Graduate Education Research is a peer-reviewed, open-access annual from the Cannon-Clary College of Education that publishes graduate students' original research.

Creative writers can join the Scribblers Creative Writing Club, one of the English department's student organizations.

Help With Writing

The English Writing Center sits at the back of the first floor of Brackett Library. Tutors help with planning, organizing and revising papers and with MLA, Chicago, IEEE and APA citation, and walk-ins are welcome when staffing allows. Graduate and remote students can book online appointments.

Finished College of Education dissertations and Harding School of Theology dissertations and theses are collected in ScholarWorks' Dissertations and Theses series.
