Grants and Writing Resources for Indiana Institute of Technology
Two cybersecurity sophomores took the $5,000 top prize at Indiana Tech's 2026 Innovation Challenge with ClassCloud, a platform designed to simplify infrastructure management for educational environments. Earlier that April the Independent Colleges of Indiana chose a health science sophomore for a $4,000 Realizing the Dream scholarship. Twenty-nine first-generation students in the state were recognized for 2025-26.
Competitions and Scholarships
The College of Business and the Talwar College of Engineering and Computer Sciences host the Innovation Challenge each year. The April 14, 2026 round drew a record 12 proposals, and five finalist teams presented. A team presenting an AI-enabled plastic waste-to-fuel platform won $2,000, and a third team won $1,000, with both prizes shared among team members.
Writing counts in two of the university's undergraduate scholarships. Applicants for the full-tuition Presidential Scholarship, offered to fall 2027 entrants, submit an essay of no more than two double-spaced pages on leadership or character, along with a resume and a recommendation. The Farley Family Scholarship goes to one student per academic year starting in 2026-27. It pays $10,000 toward university charges and asks for a 3.20 GPA, entrepreneurship coursework or documented entrepreneurial interest, and a short statement of goals, start-up ideas or companies launched. A committee may interview candidates.
Honors Program
Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher can join the Honors Program. Members must earn at least four Honors points each academic year. An Honors event is worth one point; a designated Honors course or an Honors independent study is worth three. A student can also petition to add Honors content to a regular course. Honors status appears on the transcript and diploma, and members register early every semester.
Writing Help
The Writing Center, part of the Office of Student Success, gives free feedback on writing and presentation assignments to undergraduate and graduate students on the Fort Wayne campus. Its tutors work one-on-one with writers at any stage. Traditional day students book in-person peer tutoring by appointment. Online undergraduate, master's and doctoral students use Tutor.com, and doctoral students can write to phd@indianatech.edu for further writing help. Faculty can also request classroom presentations and workshops.
Research questions go to McMillen Library, which takes Ask a Librarian questions online and books appointments with librarians.
The Doctoral Dissertation
Courses in the PhD in Global Leadership are online, with one on-campus Immersion Weekend each year. Before starting the dissertation, students finish 57 required credits, including the RES 8001 Qualifying Paper Seminar, with at least a 3.25 GPA. The committee has three members: a chair from the Indiana Tech faculty, a methodologist and a content expert. Defending the qualifying paper completes the comprehensive exam. The proposal is made up of the introduction, literature review and method chapters, and its defense can end in pass, pass with qualification, recess or fail. The final defense is open to the Indiana Tech community and usually runs one to two hours.
The program's sample dissertations page lists recent work by year, with abstracts and ProQuest full text; 12 titles appear for 2025. Eight doctoral scholarships each carry a 20% tuition benefit and cannot be combined. The newer Doctor of Business Administration, which held its first residency week in Fort Wayne in June 2026, can be completed online in as little as three years without a dissertation.
