Grants and Writing Resources for Keio University

In July 2025 a student from Keio's Shonan Fujisawa Campus won the 57th JNSA Cup All Japan Intercollegiate English Oratorical Contest. SFC's 2025 list of faculty and student awards also records a second-place Best Paper Award at IEEE Quantum Week 2025, shared by a master's student and faculty, and a December finish as winner of the ICPC 2025 domestic preliminary and runner-up at the Asia Yokohama Regional Contest.

Fellowships and Graduate Awards

Keio's doctoral students can apply university-wide for the Doctoral Student Grant-in-Aid Program funded by the Ushioda Memorial Fund, which backs basic or exploratory research that rarely finds conventional funding. The Koizumi Fund pays part of the travel costs when full-time graduate students attend international conferences or do research abroad; the amount depends on the destination. Both appear on SFC's research grants page. Two programs for doctoral students are listed among Keio's research support programs: SPRING, the Next-Generation Researchers Challenging Research Program, and BOOST, which trains doctoral students working on next-generation AI.

At SFC, the Graduate School of Media and Governance funds projects led by its own students through the Taikichiro Mori Memorial Research Grants. The Graduate Student Research Development Grant pays up to ¥400,000 per project for doctoral students and up to ¥300,000 for master's students, for research that is promising or experimental or likely to grow into a long-term project, according to SFC's research grants page. Details for both are on SFC's graduate research grants page.

Research Funding for Undergraduates

Undergraduates in SFC's Faculty of Policy Management, Faculty of Environment and Information Studies and Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care can apply to the grant programs listed on the research grants page: the Yamagishi Student Project Support Program, the SFC Education Promotion Foundation's Incentives to Study and Conduct Research, the SFC Grant for Fieldwork Research in Asia supported by Ikai Group, and, for the first two faculties only, the FPPS Grant Program for policy studies.

Since 2003 the Keio SFC Academic Society has also run a grant foundation for SFC students at both levels and for faculty. It subsidizes part of the cost of presenting at conferences, paying journal publication fees, running seminar research camps, doing fieldwork and hosting workshops. Recipients write a report and make it public.

Student Awards

SFC gives its own SFC Student Award, supported by the SFC Education Promotion Foundation, for individual and group activities and research. Five projects by undergraduate and graduate students were chosen in the 2025 cycle.

Help With Writing

The SFC Writing & Research Consultant service is run out of the Media Center at Shonan Fujisawa. SFC doctoral students staff it, and they help undergraduates and graduate students with papers, reports and research methods in 30-minute sessions, in the first-floor Consultation Room or on Zoom. Walk-ins are welcome when a consultant is free. SFC students get priority.
