Grants and Writing Resources for King's College London

In May 2026, a King's PhD graduate in Biomedicine received the 2025/26 Tadion Rideal Prize for Molecular Science, a £1,000 prize for doctoral research at the molecular level. The winning thesis engineered a nanoneedle biopsy platform for spatiotemporal omics.

Funded Doctoral Programmes

King's leads Next-Generation Human Models of Cardiovascular Disease, an £8m British Heart Foundation programme that recruits ten doctoral students a year jointly with Imperial College London. Each place is a fully funded four-year PhD that crosses cardiovascular biology with bioengineering, and trainees also work in artificial intelligence and machine learning.

BBSRC money announced in December 2025 set up three new doctoral training programmes involving King's. Two of them, the Engineering Biology for Biomedicine Centre for Doctoral Training and the Unilever Industrial Doctoral Landscape Award, will fund more than 40 doctoral students over seven years between them. Engineering Biology for Biomedicine pays stipends of £31,000 to doctoral students with home fee status in its October 2026 intake.

Dissertation Support

Academic Skills is open to all King's students. Its Research & Dissertations area gives guidance on literature reviews, research methods and dissertation writing, and the Academic Language area helps you improve your academic writing. You can book a one-to-one session for personal help. Workshops run live and are also recorded.

Where Theses Are Published

Research students' e-theses go into Pure, King's repository, and appear publicly on the King's Research Portal, normally as soon as the degree is awarded. The restriction of access form covers the exceptional cases where access is limited for a time or permanently. The portal also holds digitised copies of more than 2,000 earlier King's theses.

For a final edit before submission, our PhD-level editors work with King's students at every level. See our King's College London dissertation and thesis editing and King's College London essay editing pages, or write to editors@editorsforstudents.com.
