Grants and Writing Resources for Korea University
Fifteen Korea University graduate students reached the final of the school's K-3MT competition on 2 September 2026, each explaining a research project in English in three minutes with a single slide. A master's student in food and resource economics took the grand prize, which now carries the KU President's Award. Master's students in mechanical engineering and information security and a combined-program doctoral student in electrical and electronic engineering also placed.
Research Grants and Prizes for Graduate Students
The Graduate School lists its research support programs in one place. The Junior Fellow-Research Grant and the Academic Research Group Support Program both draw applicants from general graduate students who are enrolled or have finished coursework. Each requires an applicant or group leader with at least two semesters left before graduation, and both cover costs such as printing and meetings. Research groups must meet at least eight times a year. The same list includes a Human Rights, Gender Equality and Diversity Paper Contest for graduate students and the K-3MT competition.
The KU Graduate School Achievement Award recognizes what students accomplish while enrolled: papers in leading journals or books of academic weight (degree theses don't count), prizes in major competitions, startups and patents, and leadership in social contribution. Winners receive a certificate, a plaque and a prize, and can win only once. The list for the 2025 academic year names 27 recipients.
Help With English Papers and Sources
Graduate students and early-career researchers can join the Nature Master Class at KU, a set of online lectures by Nature trainers on writing research papers in English, listed with the Graduate School's research support programs. The same page offers a plagiarism management program with access to Turnitin, iThenticate and Copy Killer, plus manuals and online training.
For references, the library's bibliography tools guide covers EndNote and Mendeley Reference Manager, with Korean and English manuals and tutorial videos. EndNote desktop installs only on campus.
Undergraduate Prizes and Scholarships
The Undergraduate College ran its first Humanities Classics Debate and Writing Contest in 2026, built around John Stuart Mill's On Liberty. Undergraduates submitted essays of about 2,000 characters on a set topic, and eight advanced to a tournament-style debate. The 2026 contest set a President's Award of 2 million won for the winner and 5.2 million won in total prize money shared by all eight finalists.
Among the university's merit scholarships, the Anam Scholarship covers full tuition and a monthly living allowance for the length of the program. Holders keep it with a previous-semester GPA of 3.5 and at least 18 credits earned.
Writing and Submitting a Thesis
Students graduating from August 2023 onward must follow the Graduate School's thesis writing method, with official templates in Korean (HWP and Word), English (Word) and Korean-English LaTeX. Doctoral and integrated master's-doctoral candidates also submit proof that a paper was published in, or accepted by, an SCIE journal or a journal listed by the National Research Foundation of Korea, as set out in the degree application procedure.
The approved thesis goes to the library through dCollection: the final reviewed thesis file and a separate PDF of the sealed approval page. The library sets one rule that matters for editing: the submitted file must match the version the reviewers approved in content, editing and composition. After the submission period, only administrative errors can be corrected. Department offices also require a Turnitin certificate with its digital receipt.
Since the dCollection file has to match the approved thesis, the time for a final edit is before your reviewers sign off. Our editors can check grammar, consistency and format at that stage, or on a paper headed to a journal.
