Grants and Writing Resources for Loyola University Maryland

Three engineering students in Loyola's Class of 2028 received a 2026 Pava LaPere Innovation Award, which supports emerging entrepreneurs from public and private colleges. Their company, ACC Industries, takes its name from the founders' first initials and is developing a recyclable battery for electric vehicles, with guidance from the Simon Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship.

Summer Research Fellowships

Science undergraduates work for ten weeks alongside a faculty mentor as Hauber Summer Research Fellows. The 2024 program paid a $5,000 stipend and offered discounted or free campus housing. Fellows attend weekly seminars on library research, presentation skills and graduate school applications, give a formal talk, submit a written report and present a poster at a fall symposium. Some go on to publish their results.

The Center for the Humanities runs Student Summer Fellowships on a similar ten-week model for advanced scholarly or creative projects on humanities topics. Students in any major may apply, graduating seniors excepted, and the mentor must belong to the humanities faculty. Fellows present a talk and a poster at Celebrate the Humanities! or a similar Center event and file a final report that includes a copy of their written work.

Grants for Community and Justice Projects

The Office of Peace and Justice awards Student Academic and Creative Grants of up to $750 for research, creative work and professional development tied to peace and justice. Undergraduates and graduate students in any major are eligible, including graduating seniors, and conference stipends, fieldwork costs and capstone projects all qualify.

The Kolvenbach Research Grant funds socially engaged research carried out with a community partner in and around Baltimore. Students may apply along with faculty and staff, and a student stipend can reach $3,500.

Graduate Assistantships and Awards

Research and teaching assistants in Loyola's graduate assistantships receive a bi-weekly stipend and a scholarship, usually split evenly, for up to 20 hours of work a week. In the School of Education, the Teacher Education and Education Specialties department assistantship assigns research, data collection and analysis, and manuscript preparation for faculty.

Psy.D. students in Clinical Psychology and students in the M.S. in Clinical Professional Counseling program are eligible for the Commitment to Justice Awards in Psychology, which support graduate students who will work directly with underserved communities.
