Grants and Writing Resources for Loyola University New Orleans

Six Loyola public relations students built a campaign for ACCESS Newswire around a chameleon mascot that explains AI to student audiences. In the Public Relations Student Society of America's Bateman Case Study Competition the campaign scored 92.2 out of 100, and in April 2026 the team earned an honorable mention, placing in the top 14 of 46 teams.

Advising for National Fellowships

Academic Affairs keeps a fellowships advisor for nationally competitive awards. A personal email to the advisor at least a month before the deadline moves the internal process along, and the student then meets the advisor to go over requirements and essays. The section posts sample essays and a guide to writing a good one.

The office sorts opportunities by class standing. First-year students can try for the Critical Language Scholarship or a Fulbright UK Summer Institute. Sophomores add the Barry Goldwater Scholarship, and juniors the Truman Scholarship. Seniors have the longest list, with Rhodes, Marshall, Mitchell and Gates Cambridge alongside the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, DAAD and the Lafayette Fellowship.

The Honors Thesis

University Honors students write a thesis or senior project over two semesters, usually registered as a 3-credit course in the fall of senior year. The program estimates 180 to 200 hours of work. A scholarly thesis is one option; a documentary, an orchestral composition, a play, an art exhibit or a poetry collection can also count. Every honors senior presents at a poster session at the end of the spring semester, and the thesis page lists a Raabe Research Fund application among its 2024-2025 forms.

At the Honors Senior Convocation, the Constance Mui and John T. Sebastian Award for Outstanding Research in Honors goes to the graduating senior with the strongest thesis or project.

Journals and Student Media

The College of Law publishes three journals. The student-edited Loyola Law Review dates to 1920, when it began as the Loyola Law Journal. The Loyola Journal of Public Interest Law started in spring 1995 as the Loyola Poverty Law Journal and comes out twice a year. The Loyola Maritime Law Journal, also semiannual, prints articles alongside student comments and casenotes.

Undergraduates report for The Maroon, a weekly paper founded on November 1, 1923. Its sister title, The Wolf, has covered campus culture since 1999.

Tutors, Librarians and Graduate Funds

The Office of Writing and Learning Services (OWLS) gives full-time undergraduates free peer tutoring in writing, in person in the Monroe Library or online. Graduate students get asynchronous eTutoring: they upload a draft with the assignment, and a graduate tutor emails written feedback within three business days.

For sources, Monroe Library subject librarians take appointments on research projects. The Student Government Association helps graduate students with conference, travel, software and licensure exam costs, including a testing or software reimbursement of up to $350 a semester, and the graduate resources page lists a Richard Franck Research Grant for students exploring their field.
