Grants and Writing Resources for Mahidol University

At the Young Rising Star of Science Awards 2025, held by the Science Society of Thailand in November 2025, three students from Mahidol University International College came away with a gold medal and two silver medals. Each had presented a poster on a senior project from the MUIC curriculum, one in computer science, one in chemistry and one in food science and technology. Graduate work gets its own hearing. In the Faculty of Graduate Studies' Distinguished Thesis Awards, Fiscal Year 2025, 22 theses were picked for oral presentation.

Thesis Awards

Among the Faculty of Graduate Studies' scholarships and awards are three awards for graduates' theses. The Distinguished Thesis Award recognizes high-quality research, much of it already published in national or international journals. The Innovative Thesis Award looks for work that pushes manufacturing toward new products driven by technology and creativity, or turns services into knowledge-based, high-value offerings. A third prize, the Outstanding Thesis Awards Promoting Mahidol University's SDGs Policies, honors graduate work that responds to national and regional SDGs policy initiatives.

Shortlisted work is presented in person. In 2025 the Distinguished Thesis finalists gave oral presentations in four groups: Biological Sciences; Physical Sciences and Technology; Applied Health Sciences; and Humanities, Social Sciences, Education, and Liberal Arts.

Grants for Research and Conference Travel

Once a thesis title is approved and an advisory committee appointed, master's and doctoral students can seek conference money from the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The Grant to Support Graduate Students in Academic Presentations in Thailand covers national or international conferences held in Thailand. For meetings overseas there is the Scholarship to Promote Master and Doctoral Students' Competency for International Academic Presentations, which asks that the student be first author and already hold an invitation to present. Both are limited to programs under the Faculty's financial coordination, and programs at several units, among them Siriraj Hospital, Ramathibodi Hospital and MUIC, are excluded.

For the research itself, the Graduate Studies of Mahidol University Alumni Association gives Partial Funding for Graduate Student Thesis to current students who are association members. Applicants already funded from elsewhere must keep their combined research funding at or below 50,000 THB a year.

Publishing and the Thesis Collection

Graduate students who turn thesis work into a review article can apply for the Faculty of Graduate Studies' Awards for Publishing Review Articles. The article, a narrative review, systematic review or meta-analysis, must already be published in an international journal ranked Q1 or Q2 in SJR, with the student as first author and the thesis advisor as corresponding author.

Finished theses go to the Library and Knowledge Center's e-Theses collection. The library holds print theses back to 1961 and electronic files from 2004. Most theses enter the database about two years after graduation.

Help With Writing

Librarians teach a Library to Research Workshop series open to Mahidol students, faculty, researchers and staff. The current round covers literature reviews and research proposals with AI, searching for research sources, EndNote, Turnitin plagiarism checking and basic SPSS. Participants who attend more than 80 percent of the session and pass the post-test earn a certificate.

Language training sits with the Language Center at the Faculty of Graduate Studies, whose short courses are open to students, faculty and the public.
