Grants and Writing Resources for National Taiwan University
Two NTU sophomores swam the men's 200m breaststroke at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. One, from the Bachelor Program of International Sports Affairs, set a national record in the final and placed seventh. He also broke the national record in the 100m breaststroke twice, in the preliminaries and in the final. The other, an animal science and technology student, finished ninth. Two more students from the sports affairs program worked the Games as a youth reporter for the Olympic Council of Asia and as a logistics volunteer for the Chinese Taipei team.
Prizes for Theses
NTU started the Bachelor's Thesis Award in the 2016 academic year for undergraduates who show research potential. Colleges also hold separate competitions to encourage early research. The award has four tiers: the Fu Ssu-nien Award, the President's Award, the Dean's Award and the Excellence Award. Every winner gets a certificate, and the top two tiers carry cash prizes.
Since the 2023 academic year, recipients have had higher priority for exchange programs, and NTU also offers them overseas scholarships for international study. Since the 2022 academic year, abstracts of winning theses have been compiled with those from the Graduate Student President's Award into a collection that goes to recipients and is kept in the NTU History Gallery at the Main Library.
Fellowships and Graduate Scholarships
The NTU Centennial Fellowship supports master's and doctoral students from partner universities such as Mahidol, Chulalongkorn and the University of Indonesia. NTU's scholarship list for current international students shows that it pays NT$300,000 per academic year for master's students, for up to two years, and NT$500,000 a year for doctoral students, for up to four.
International graduate students already enrolled can apply for the NTU International Outstanding Graduate Student Scholarship. In the 2026 round it waived up to NT$100,000 in tuition and paid a monthly stipend of NT$8,000 for master's students and NT$10,000 or NT$15,000 for doctoral students, depending on the college. International and overseas students who stay at NTU for a further degree can claim the NTU Loyalty Award for Overseas Degree Students, which in its 2026 round paid NT$100,000 for a master's and NT$200,000 for a PhD in semester installments.
For international conferences, the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures points its graduate students to NSTC subsidies through the Office of Academic Affairs, College of Liberal Arts funding offered twice a year, and the Outstanding Talent Development Foundation. Two department endowments cover economy airfare on Taiwanese airlines and lodging, with one application per student each academic year.
Writing Help and the 3MT
The Academic Writing Education Center teaches three-credit academic writing courses in English and in Chinese, with classes capped at 20. Its Writing First-Aid Station offers one-on-one consultations to all NTU students, with feedback on organization, logic, coherence and sentence structure. A separate program, Writing Together, focuses on progress with theses and dissertations.
NTU's Three Minute Thesis competition, listed on the center's site, is given in English and open to graduate students at any university in Taiwan. The 2025 final, held November 13 in the Boya Building, paid NT$20,000 for first prize, NT$15,000 for second, NT$12,000 for third and NT$10,000 for audience choice. Three poster winners received NT$3,000 each.
Submitting a Thesis
Graduate students lay out the thesis by the library's Format Guide, then add the required watermark and DOI to the PDF before uploading it through the NTU Theses and Dissertations Submission system. Library staff usually review it within two working days and return it by email for corrections if needed. Printed copies and three signed authorization forms follow.
The library also offers two tools for similarity reports. WriteAid is open to graduating master's and doctoral students, and Turnitin to master's students from the second year and doctoral students from the third. Finished work goes into the NTU Theses and Dissertations Repository, which holds NTU master's theses and doctoral dissertations.
For a thesis or paper written in English, our editors can give the draft a final check for grammar, consistency and format before it goes to the library or a journal.
