Grants and Writing Resources for Niagara University

On May 1, 2026, about 142 Niagara students took part in the Undergraduate and Graduate Research Conference sponsored by the Honors Program, giving 35 panel presentations and 78 posters. Topics ran from nurses' views of psychedelic-assisted therapy to survival analysis in Major League Baseball. The year before, two seniors and a junior in social work took second place for a poster at the 42nd annual conference of the Association of Baccalaureate Social Work Program Directors in Las Vegas.

The Honors Thesis

The capstone of the Honors Program is a year-long thesis of original research, done one-on-one with a Niagara faculty member. According to the undergraduate catalog, it's a six-credit, two-semester course taken in the fourth year, and students on the departmental honors track complete it too. University honors finishers get an honors certificate from the university president at graduation and an honors notation on the transcript. Rising sophomores with a 3.50 GPA and fewer than 48 credits can apply the summer before sophomore year.

Writing Prizes

The women's studies program runs an annual writing contest. Its 2023 call for papers opened it to undergraduates in any discipline whose papers are sensitive to women's and gender issues, one paper per student, with separate awards for first-year students and for sophomores through seniors. A creative entities contest joined it in 2024. At the March 2025 awards ceremony, first and second place in writing went to two political science students, and the creative prizes went to students in computer and information sciences and Spanish education.

Help With Writing

The Writing Center, part of the Academic Success Center, is open to undergraduate and graduate students at the Lewiston and Vaughan campuses. Professional and peer tutors work with writers at any stage, from making sense of an assignment to planning, documenting sources and revising. Sessions run 30 minutes and are booked through myNU, and walk-ins are taken when the schedule has room. Students can meet in person in Seton Hall or online, live or asynchronously, according to the graduate catalog; evening and weekend hours are online. Tutoring starts in the third week of each semester and runs until exams. Tutors won't proofread.

Finding Niagara Theses

Print theses sit on the second floor of the library, behind the P call numbers, and can be found in the catalog by selecting the Thesis collections; the library's FAQ also explains how to search Dissertations and Theses Global for Niagara work. The University Archives hold Medaille doctoral dissertations written through summer 2023, along with digitized issues of the Niagara Index, the student newspaper, from 1870 to 1900.
