Grants and Writing Resources for Northwest University

In July 2026 a graduate student in Northwest's MBA program, captain of the men's soccer team, earned the Cascade Collegiate Conference Champion of Character award for leadership and service. He organized preseason Bible studies for student-athletes, volunteered with Fellowship of Christian Athletes and SAMBICA, and worked in dining services and the athletics department while he studied.

Honors Capstones

Research writing starts in the first year of the Honors Program curriculum, with ENGL 1023H. Later come the Honors Capstone Seminar and the Honors Capstone Independent Study, which students usually take twice. In the spring of senior year each student presents the finished capstone at the Honors Symposium.

The program began in fall 2018. Its papers are kept in the Undergraduate Honors Theses collection of NU Archives, with work from 2022 through 2025.

Undergraduate Scholarships

For 2027-28 the Kirkland campus scholarship list includes a $1,000 Honors Program Scholarship, renewable for up to four years while a student stays active in the program. Up to four entering students are offered the full-tuition President's Scholarship, which brings automatic entry into Honors. Program Scholarships of $1,000 to $4,000 a year go to students invited to a scholarship event.

Doctoral Funding and Dissertations

The PhD in Organizational Leadership is a 72-credit, four-year program with week-long residencies on the Kirkland campus. It offers a $1,000 first-year grant and a 10% matching tuition discount for employees of nonprofits. The Center for Leadership Studies also runs a three-year EdD. In both, every term includes core, concentration and dissertation classes.

Finished work goes to the Dissertations and Theses community in NU Archives. It holds PhD and EdD dissertations in organizational leadership, Psy.D. dissertations in counseling psychology dating to 2012, and master's theses from several programs.

Writing Center

The Writing Center runs two rooms in Hurst Library. Traditional undergraduates meet tutors on the main level. Graduate, COEE and extension students use the basement level. Sessions are 30 minutes, in person, and booked through the library's reservation system; undergraduates can also walk in, with one appointment a day.

Tutors help students read an assignment, brainstorm a thesis, organize a draft and polish a finished essay.

Before a capstone or dissertation goes to the committee, our editors can give it a final edit for grammar, consistency and format. See our Northwest University dissertation and thesis editing and Northwest University essay editing pages, or write to editors@editorsforstudents.com.
