Grants and Writing Resources for Our Lady of the Lake University

A senior chemistry major from OLLU spent summer 2026 in a competitive ten-week Research Experiences for Undergraduates program at Binghamton University, working in a faculty lab on ways to make recycled batteries perform as well as conventional ones. OLLU's current McNair Scholars have taken their research to McNair conferences and research events at Baylor, UT San Antonio, the University of New Mexico and Stony Brook.

Research Before Graduate School

The McNair Scholars Program has run at OLLU for more than 25 years. It's a federally funded TRIO program for first-generation, limited-income undergraduates who plan to earn a doctoral degree, and it gives them a paid ten-week summer research internship, a faculty mentor and professional research presentations. A 2025 post on the OLLU blog adds GRE preparation and help choosing and applying to master's and doctoral programs. Scholars come from any major.

OLLU's current McNair Scholars number 14, in fields from communication sciences and disorders to computer information systems and security.

Writing Support

The Mary Francine Danis Writing Center is in Room 101 of Sueltenfuss Library. Its consultants are professional staff holding bachelor's or master's degrees, and they help writers at every stage, from interpreting an assignment and brainstorming through organization, tone and clarity, either one-on-one or with a group writing a shared paper. Sessions are in person or by online chat, booked through the center's scheduling system. The center belongs to the Academic Centers for Excellence, which also house the math and tutoring centers.

Student Media

Mass communication students in the Salazar-Escobedo School produce Lake Life, a magazine printed on campus and posted online. The same program puts out the Lake Front newspaper and the Lake Front Live news broadcast.

Where Dissertations Are Kept

Sueltenfuss Library holds OLLU dissertations in print and electronic form. Print copies are kept behind the reserve desk, with circulating copies on the third floor under call number LD4431.0875, and the library's FAQ shows how to pull up OLLU work in Dissertations and Theses Global. One floor up from the Writing Center, the Graduate Student Center opened in March 2025 on the library's second floor as a dedicated space to support graduate students' academic and professional success.

Our editors work with OLLU writers at the final-draft stage, from seminar papers to dissertations. See our Our Lady of the Lake University dissertation and thesis editing and Our Lady of the Lake University essay editing pages, or write to editors@editorsforstudents.com.
