Grants and Writing Resources for Peking University

A Peking University student team placed first in the LINPACK Benchmark and second in the online IndySCC track at the SC25 Student Cluster Competition in St. Louis in November 2025. At home, the Graduate School named 99 theses to its 2024 Peking University Outstanding Doctoral Dissertations list. Winners receive a certificate and 6,000 RMB. Their supervisors receive the same sum.

Undergraduate Research

The Office of Academic Affairs runs the Undergraduate Research-Oriented Learning Program (本科生研究型学习项目), which lets undergraduates do independent or small-group research under a faculty supervisor. Groups top out at three students. Finished projects usually earn 2 to 4 credits through the Undergraduate Student Research Study course, and students who earn that credit may apply for the Peking University Undergraduate Research Excellence Award.

Dissertation Prizes

The university selects its Peking University Outstanding Doctoral Dissertations (北京大学优秀博士学位论文) through department nominations, committee hearings and a final vote by the Degree Evaluation Committee. The 2025 call asked for work at the frontier of its field and told committees to leave places empty rather than lower the bar. Winners receive a certificate and 6,000 RMB. Their supervisors receive the same sum, and the Graduate School keeps winner lists back to 2012.

Presenting Research

The Graduate School's Graduate Academic Exchange Fund (研究生学术交流基金) helps full-time graduate students attend high-level international conferences where they are first or second author on an accepted paper, and it also backs approved international summer and winter schools. It pays toward round-trip airfare, visa fees, accommodation and registration. Each department's committee sets the amount.

Students who'd rather host an event can look to the Graduate Education Innovation Program (研究生教育创新计划). In 2024 it funded graduate summer schools, doctoral academic forums and doctoral academic conferences run by schools across the university.

Where Theses Are Published

Graduating students deposit an electronic copy of the thesis through the Library's electronic thesis submission system, reached from the 学位论文/出站报告提交 icon on the Library homepage, and the authorization page needs both the author's and the supervisor's signatures. The Library's Academics page links to PKU Theses & Dissertations and to Yenching University Theses from 1922 to 1951. It also lists the PKU Journals Platform, which offers full-text browsing and downloading for 113 journals published by PKU research institutes. Research by university members goes into the PKU Institutional Repository, an open-access archive.

Our editors work with PKU writers at the final-draft stage, from seminar papers to dissertations. See our Peking University dissertation and thesis editing page, or write to editors@editorsforstudents.com.
