Grants and Writing Resources for Piedmont University
The Seventh Annual Piedmont Symposium in April 2025 drew nearly 400 Piedmont students, who presented more than 250 projects on the Demorest and Athens campuses. Titles ranged from "Can Flies Solve Crimes?" to "Caffeine Culture in Nursing." The first symposium, in 2019, drew more than 130 students.
Presenting Research
The Piedmont Symposium is the university's yearly day for student research and creative inquiry. It has grown fast. The first one, in 2019, drew more than 130 students, and by 2024 the count had passed 400. Sessions run in rooms on both campuses, and the symposium page carries the Demorest and Athens schedules, Zoom links for each room, and resources for building a research poster.
Student Media and Honor Societies
Students who want to write for an audience can join The Roar, Piedmont's student media organization, which runs an online news site and a print newspaper distributed on both campuses. The same catalog page lists The Yonahian, the university yearbook, named for Mount Yonah. Both are produced by students with a faculty advisor, and any Piedmont student may take part.
Piedmont's catalog lists more than 20 honor societies and honors programs. English students can be invited to Sigma Tau Delta, the international English honor society, and those in journalism and mass communications to the Society for Collegiate Journalists. Alpha Chi, a national academic honor society, takes juniors and seniors from the top 10 percent of their class.
Doctoral Writing and Dissertations
Piedmont's Doctor of Education requires at least 60 hours beyond the master's degree, with concentrations in Curriculum and Instruction or Educational Leadership. Its foundation is writing and research. A 6-hour academic writing core and a 15-hour research core lead into a dissertation core of at least 10 hours, which supports candidates through the dissertation itself.
Finished dissertations are collected online. The library's guide to locating Piedmont dissertations walks through the Online Research A-Z list to the Piedmont University Dissertations link, and the same steps lead to other sources for doctoral dissertations.
Help With Writing
The Learning Center offers one-on-one tutoring and writing support, with peer tutors in the Student Success Center in Lane Hall on the Demorest campus. Zoom appointments are open to all students. To book, choose "Academic Support – Writing" in Starfish, pick a tutor, and note in the request what you'd like help with; students can also drop in and work with any tutor who is free.
When a paper, thesis, or dissertation is ready for a final edit, our editors can help. See our Piedmont University dissertation and thesis editing and Piedmont University essay editing pages, or write to editors@editorsforstudents.com.
