Grants and Writing Resources for Robert Morris University

A biology senior at Robert Morris received a 2026 Fulbright U.S. Student Program Study/Research Grant for nine months at the Hungarian University of Sports Science in Budapest, studying the effects of exercise on cognition in aging populations. RMU's broadcast students won too. A women's hockey broadcast against Lindenwood, produced entirely by a team of 12 students, took a Collegiate Pillar at the 2026 Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards, the university's fifth in the live sporting event category since 2016.

Undergraduate Research Conference

The University Honors Program has sponsored RMU's Undergraduate Research Conference for over 18 years. Students give a 10-minute presentation or bring a poster, and the conference is built to show how research from different disciplines and methods connects. The 2024 edition drew over 50 students from all six of RMU's schools.

Publishing at RMU

Rune is RMU's peer-reviewed literary journal, publishing poetry, prose, photography, graphic design and drawings by RMU students, faculty and staff and by writers from the Pittsburgh region. Each person may submit up to three pieces. Getting into Rune can help with money, too: the English Department gives the John Stanton Carson Endowed Academic Scholarship to an RMU student who writes well, and candidates published in Rune receive special consideration.

News writers and broadcasters work at RMU Sentry Media, the independent, student-run converged media outlet, open to all registered RMU students in reporting, photography, videography and advertising or design roles. Finished research has a permanent home in the library's Institutional Repository, which is free for anyone to read. Graduate and undergraduate students can contribute work there when an RMU faculty member sponsors it.

Help With Writing

The Writing Center offers free tutoring to RMU students, faculty and staff, by appointment over Google Meet. Tutors help with class papers, speeches and oral presentations as well as graduate school, grant and scholarship applications and artist's statements. Sessions can cover brainstorming, a research plan or outline, editing a draft, citation format or proofreading. Each student gets up to 30 minutes per tutor per week, to a maximum of 1.5 hours.

Dissertation Support

The Ph.D. in Instructional Management and Leadership handbook lays out the dissertation step by step. The program runs 60 credits beyond the master's, 15 of them for the dissertation, and the curriculum includes a Writing for Publication course. The handbook describes a five-chapter dissertation in APA 7th edition, in which Chapter 1 must be approved before later chapters go forward, followed by a proposal and a final defense before a committee. Doctoral students can ask their library liaison for in-depth research help, and approved dissertations are submitted to ProQuest for publication, with a copy going to the RMU Library.

Our editors work with RMU writers at the final-draft stage, from seminar papers to dissertations. See our Robert Morris University dissertation and thesis editing and Robert Morris University essay editing pages, or write to editors@editorsforstudents.com.
