Grants and Writing Resources for Saint Leo University

On June 3, 2026, in Chattanooga, the Saint Leo softball team won the NCAA Division II national championship, sweeping McKendree University in the two-game final series. It was the first national title in the program's 45 years. The Lions finished 54-3-1, and their three losses are the fewest for any Division II softball champion.

Honors Research and the Senior Project

Every student in the Honors Program finishes with a four-credit senior project. In HON498, Honors Research Methods, the student writes a proposal with a faculty mentor, sets a timeline and gathers sources. HON499 is the thesis or project itself, original research that the mentor grades and that includes service to the community. Incoming fall students admitted to the Honors Scholars Track receive the $1,000 Honors Program Scholarship.

In September 2026 the Honors Program was selected for Partners in Peace, an initiative of the National Collegiate Honors Council and the Nobel Peace Center. The selection rests on a new course, HON 361: Democracy, Technology, and the Nobel Peace Prize, centered on the 2025 laureate, María Corina Machado. Students in the course will record oral histories with members of the Venezuelan community in Tampa Bay.

Where Students Present and Publish

At the 2026 Celebration of Academic Excellence, held April 2, undergraduates gave oral presentations and poster sessions that faculty panels judged. Colleges gave awards for academic leadership, scholarship and experiential learning, and separate awards went to the top oral presentation and the top poster.

Creative work goes to Sandhill Review, the annual literary magazine that students and faculty produce. Its 2026 issue, on the theme "Belonging," prints poetry, prose, artwork and photography. Research in technology has a newer outlet: ICT Latin America, a peer-reviewed bilingual journal of information systems that Saint Leo launched in 2026. The university says it aims to connect emerging scholars and graduate students with established researchers.

Writing and Tutoring Help

The Center for Academic Vision & Excellence, known as the CAVE, offers free peer tutoring and paper reviews on the first floor of Kirk Hall. Tutors give feedback on drafts; bring a printed copy and the assignment guidelines. Online students can reach Tutor.com through the Learning Tools menu in their courses.

The Cannon Memorial Library's writing and research guide covers APA, MLA, ASA, Chicago and ACS citation, with discipline guides for business, creative writing, criminal justice, education, science and social work. The library also gives one-on-one help with citations, DraftCoach and Zotero.

Doctoral Dissertations

The online Doctor of Theology in Applied Theology runs 60 credits, which cover 42 hours of coursework, comprehensive exams and the dissertation. The Doctor of Business Administration asks for a dissertation that makes an original contribution to management or business. The Doctorate in Education: School and Organizational Leadership prepares graduates to apply action research and to manage change through data-informed decision making.

Studies that collect data from people go to the Institutional Review Board. A student application needs current NIH or CITI ethics certification for the student and the faculty advisor, and student certifications last one year. The IRB page also links Center for Research recordings on qualitative research, statistics and grant writing.

Two scholarship funds serve students of religion and theology. The Center for Catholic-Jewish Studies offers the Interreligious Dialogue Fellowship. Its flyer for the 2024-2025 academic year describes a renewable tuition scholarship for full-time undergraduate and graduate students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher who are interested in the study of interreligious dialogue. For the Th.D., Saint Leo is raising funds to endow the Doctorate in Theology Endowed Student Scholarship, the School of Theology's first endowed scholarship for doctoral students.

Before a senior project, course paper or dissertation goes to your mentor or committee, our editors can give it a final check for grammar, consistency and format.
