Grants and Writing Resources for Seattle University

A Master of Science in Data Science student at Seattle U worked on a protocol for testing AI systems that draft mammography reports, and his paper was accepted for publication and an oral presentation at the Pacific Symposium on Biocomputing in Hawaii. Ahead of the College of Science and Engineering's STEM Research Showcase on October 23, 2026, the university announced that a marine and conservation biology major would present shark research done with Oregon State University's Big Fish Lab.

Student Journals

SUURJ, the Seattle University Undergraduate Research Journal, is a peer-reviewed online journal that reached its tenth volume in 2026. Students have run Fragments, the annual literary and arts magazine, since 1958; it has come out in print and online since 2024.

Conferences and Prizes

Undergraduates from every discipline and graduate students from every program, online ones included, can apply to the Student Research and Creativity Conference with a faculty mentor's sponsorship. Presenters bring posters, talks, art exhibits, poetry readings, film screenings and performances.

Lemieux and Cornish libraries give the Undergraduate Project Award for finished undergraduate work, judged in part on how students used the libraries and reflected on their growth as researchers or creators. It pays $500 to an individual winner, $250 to each of two individual honors and $1,000 to a winning group, and recipients present at the conference.

Theses and Dissertations

ScholarWorks holds Seattle U's theses, dissertations and culminating projects. Collections include dissertations from the Educational and Organizational Learning and Leadership doctorate, Doctor of Nursing Practice projects, Doctor of Ministry projects and master's theses in criminal justice, nursing and kinesiology.

Writing Support

Undergraduate and graduate peer consultants staff the Writing Center on the second floor of Lemieux Library. Hour-long sessions cover anything from brainstorming and outlining to grammar and rhetorical choices. Writers can meet in person, by video or text chat, or send a draft for written comments.

Our editors work with Seattle U writers at the final-draft stage, from seminar papers to dissertations. See our Seattle University dissertation and thesis editing and Seattle University essay editing pages, or write to editors@editorsforstudents.com.
