Grants and Writing Resources for Springfield College
Two Springfield College Sport Management seniors finished as runner-up in the Case Study Competition at the 5th Annual Equity in Sport Leadership Conference, held at UMass Boston on April 27, 2026. Staff from Boston Legacy FC, a new professional women's soccer team, judged the entries, and the pair's equity-minded plan for the club proposed using its home venue, White Stadium, for community engagement. That summer a senior in the Dance/Pre-PT to DPT program performed at the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival on Community Day, dancing with two recent Dance graduates in a work choreographed by an adjunct Dance professor.
Graduate Fellowships and Scholarships
Springfield's graduate fellowships and associateships can pay a stipend, a tuition waiver or an hourly wage for up to 20 hours of work a week. Fellows teach, do research or coach; associates handle administrative and professional work. The positions go to full-time graduate students on the Springfield campus, and students in online or hybrid programs can't hold them. On the current listings the PEHE Research & Statistics Fellowship and the Research & Statistics Fellowship in Exercise Science each carry a $10,000 annual stipend for 20 hours a week. Teaching and research fellowships in Physical Therapy pay $4,500 for 10 hours, and those in Social Work and Occupational Therapy pay $3,900.
Merit money comes through the graduate scholarships. Five new full-time students on the main campus each year receive the Excellence Scholarship, an 18-credit tuition waiver spread over one academic year. The Community Leadership Scholarship and the Promise Scholarship each go to four students a year and pay $5,000 annually for two years. Promise recipients are students already working on diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice.
Honors Projects and Research Review
The Honors Program began in 2019. Members receive a $2,000 Honors Program Scholarship each year for up to four years, on top of other merit awards, and can count an Advanced Honors Project toward their guided study. Members can take part in professional conferences and workshops, and the program helps them apply for post-graduate fellowships and graduate programs. English majors can write an undergraduate thesis in the senior capstone, Research in English Studies.
Student research with human subjects, done under faculty supervision, goes to the Institutional Review Board. A thesis or dissertation application includes the study's methods section. The faculty research advisor and the department chair sign it before it goes to the board, which reviews applications within 10 business days. CITI training is optional and free.
Where Student Writing Appears
The Springfield Student, the independent weekly campus newspaper, has published since 1910 and still prints on Thursdays. The English program lists the Alden Street Review as its literary magazine. It prints poems, short stories, creative nonfiction and artwork by students, faculty and staff, and a student editorial board helps choose the work. The program's Sigma Tau Delta chapter, Alpha Omicron Xi, inducted its first members in spring 2008.
Writing Help and the Thesis Archive
Writing @ Springfield College is a joint service of Advising and Student Success and the Department of Literature, Writing, and Journalism. Peer Writing Tutors and Faculty Writing Specialists meet students in person or online to work on short papers, long essays, research papers and literature reviews. The Academic Success Center is on the third floor of the Learning Commons.
Finished theses and dissertations go to the Office of Academic Affairs, which sends a digital copy to Library Services. The library stores it permanently and publishes it in the Theses, Dissertations, & Projects digital collections, alongside research projects from Art Therapy, the Doctor of Physical Therapy program and Educational Studies. Graduates order bound copies from Thesis On Demand; the library suggests maroon cloth for a thesis and black for a dissertation.
A Springfield thesis passes through the Office of Academic Affairs before it reaches the library, and our editors can give it, or any course paper, a final edit for grammar, consistency and format first.
