Grants and Writing Resources for St. John's University
On March 14, 2026, five St. John's undergraduate research teams took their posters to Madison Square Garden for the fifth annual BIG EAST Undergraduate Research Poster Symposium. The university nominated them as its top teams. They presented among 55 teams, five from each of the 11 BIG EAST schools.
Research Conference and Research Month
Undergraduate and graduate students in faculty-mentored research submit abstracts to the Student Research Conference, which pairs a poster session open to every scholarly discipline with panel presentations. Posters and panels each have first-, second-, and third-place awards, and there's an honorable mention for the First Year Research Opportunity (FYRO) program. In 2026 the top undergraduate poster covered the purification of Sortase A from E. coli. A graduate poster on substance use disorder treatment patterns and opioid-associated inpatient costs in New York took first in its division, and the winning panel presentation dealt with DNMT1 inhibition in high-risk neuroblastoma.
Each year St. John's also holds Research Month, a stretch of lectures, poster sessions, and workshops on the scholarship of its students and faculty.
Fellowships
St. John's counts 86 verified Fulbright awards among its faculty and students, and 31 students have accepted one over the past decade.
Graduate students can apply for Graduate Assistantships and University Fellowships, which are granted to academic departments across the university's schools and colleges. Administrative offices also hire graduate assistants.
Writing Help
The University Writing Center offers three kinds of consultations: face to face, live online, and asynchronous e-tutoring. Students book through the center's scheduling site. Each reserved hour gives you 45 minutes with a consultant, who uses the rest to write up a session summary.
Where Theses Are Published
Electronic theses and dissertations go into St. John's Scholar, the Libraries' open access repository for the university's scholarly output. It also takes posters, conference papers, creative works, and working papers, all subject to the Libraries' approval and copyright law.
