Grants and Writing Resources for St. Thomas Aquinas College
STAC softball opened its 2026 season 0-6. In May the team beat Assumption in two extra-inning games to win the NCAA Division II East Region and earn the program's first trip to the Division II World Series, with program records of 38 wins and a .760 winning percentage. This fall, students in a public relations course are running the campaign for Rockland County Toys for Tots, from client interviews and audience analysis to media outreach, with a goal of 3,000 toys.
Ignite and Student Research
Each year the college holds Ignite, an exhibition of student research and creative work. Any STAC undergraduate or graduate student with a faculty mentor can submit an abstract. Students in independent study and research courses are the usual presenters, and capstone students can apply with their instructor's permission. A review committee with one faculty member from each of six divisions scores every abstract on clarity, purpose, significance and methods. Work still in progress is accepted.
The 11th Ignite ran on April 30, 2026. Its program booklet lists 35 presentations. Topics ranged from the chemistry of superglue fuming to reinforcement learning on physical systems.
Grants and Fellowship Work
In September 2026 the National Endowment for the Humanities awarded STAC $345,639 to document two Loyalist regiments of the Revolutionary War, De Lancey's Brigade and the Loyal American Regiment. The work extends the college's Loyalist Studies Institute and its database of more than 11,000 Loyalists. Undergraduates will work with faculty through fellowship opportunities in archival research, documentary editing, digital humanities and data curation.
STEM majors who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and plan on graduate school or a STEM career can join the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation program, which offers faculty-led research, conference and symposium presentations, and stipends for books and materials. For internships and co-ops, current students can apply for the Experiential Learning Opportunity Fund, which a student can receive only once. Its first recipient received $2,500 for a spring 2022 co-op in Dublin.
Where Student Writing Appears
The Voyager comes out each spring and prints poetry, prose, journalism, photography and illustration by current and former STAC students. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis.
Sigma Tau Delta, the English honor society, is one of 15 academic honor societies with chapters at the college. New inductees and Dean's List students are recognized at the Honors Convocation each spring.
Tutors, Librarians and Graduate Study
Writing tutors staff the Writing Lab in Spellman 111. The Center for Student Success books peer tutors through the college's student app. The tutors read labs, essays and other writing and help students see where they make grammar errors. Research questions go to the Lougheed Library at asklibrarian@stac.edu.
STAC's graduate programs include the MBA, MPA, MSEd, MST and an MS in Exercise Science. Alumni who return for a full MBA, MPA, MSEd or MST can receive up to $12,000 through the Alumni GRAD-itude Scholarship, and their parents, children, grandparents and siblings up to $7,000.
Before an Ignite abstract, a capstone paper or a graduate paper goes in, our editors can give it a final check for grammar, consistency and format.
