Grants and Writing Resources for Suffolk University

The Suffolk Journal, Suffolk's student newspaper, took first place for front page and for general news photo from the New England Newspaper & Press Association in 2026, and it was first runner-up for New England College Newspaper of the Year. The same year, the College Media Association gave the paper first place for Best Crisis Coverage in Division II, along with second place for Best Newspaper. Its awards record shows five more College Media Association awards in 2025, among them first place for Best Editorial.

Student Journals

Venture Literary/Arts Magazine has been published since 1967. It's run by students, with backing from the English Department and the Office of Student Activities, and it prints poetry, fiction, essays, memoirs, short plays, art, and photography from students, staff, faculty, and alumni. First-year writers get their own outlet in Inklings, the English Department's journal of essays from first-year writing courses.

Law students can contribute to or help edit five Suffolk Law journals: the Suffolk Law Review, the Transnational Law Review, the Journal of High Technology Law, the Journal of Health and Biomedical Law, and the Suffolk Journal of Trial and Appellate Advocacy. The Moot Court Honor Board publishes that last one twice a year, with Notes and Case Comments written by students.

Help With Writing

Writing tutoring is part of the Center for Learning and Academic Success (CLAS), which also helps with English language concerns. One-on-one tutoring is in person or online, where tutor and student share the document and mark it up together, and you can book at the front desk of the Division of Student Success on the 9th floor of 73 Tremont Street. Appointments run until 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and those from 6 p.m. on are virtual. The College of Arts & Sciences points graduate students to CLAS too, and the library takes research appointments with reference librarians.

Honors Research and Fellowships

In the University Honors Program, College of Arts & Sciences students in the selective Honors in the Major track complete an honors thesis or capstone project as seniors, and Sawyer Business School honors students finish with a capstone in their field. Honors students can present at national and regional honors conferences and can apply to represent Suffolk at the National Collegiate Honors Council Conference.

For national awards, Suffolk staff and faculty advise students applying for the fellowships and scholarships such as the Fulbright, Gilman, Boren, Goldwater, Truman, Udall, Rhodes, and Marshall, among others. The fellowships and scholarships are open to all students who meet eligibility requirements.

Where Theses Are Published

Suffolk's libraries run Digital Collections @ Suffolk, the university repository. It holds Undergraduate Theses and Capstone Projects from the College of Arts & Sciences and the Sawyer Business School, plus Graduate Theses and Dissertations and Graduate Capstone Projects. Recent graduate work leans toward design and architecture.

If you'd like an editor's eye on a thesis chapter or a research paper before it goes out, we can help. See our Suffolk University dissertation and thesis editing and Suffolk University essay editing pages, or write to editors@editorsforstudents.com.
