Grants and Writing Resources for Taylor University
Taylor film and media students won 11 awards at the Broadcast Education Association's Festival of Media Arts, the university reported in March 2026. The festival draws entries from 300 member schools. Taylor's two first places came in short-form documentary, for Kids Who Dance, and in short narrative, where So Tender A Flame tied with Baylor.
Student Journals
Lux et Fides: A Journal for Undergraduate Christian Scholars publishes research and scholarship by Taylor undergraduates in any discipline, with the aim of integrating Christian faith with academic study. Its 2024 volume carries five articles and five research briefs.
Creative work goes to Parnassus, the student-run literary journal, which has come out every year since the 1960s with fiction, nonfiction, poetry, photography and art. Both journals are archived in Pillars, the Zondervan Library repository, which also keeps senior capstones and student projects from mathematics, psychology, computer science and engineering, and other departments.
Summer Research and Pitch Prizes
Pillars keeps a collection for Faculty Mentored Undergraduate Scholarship, a summer program in which professors mentored students through a piece of scholarly work. The collection dates contributions to 2015 and holds submissions from 2021. The Celebration of Scholarship archive runs from 2018 through 2022; in 2021 faculty and students presented panels, talks and posters there, some of the work coming from those summer projects.
Students with a business or nonprofit idea can enter Trojan Arena, the pitch competition of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. As reported in July 2026, the top three finalists receive $5,000, $3,000 and $1,000, and the audience picks a $1,000 winner from five presenters.
Graduate Theses and the Leadership PhD
Doctoral students in the online PhD in Leadership begin the dissertation process on day one. Courses cover the research and dissertation process and quantitative and qualitative analysis, the writing runs in six stages from the second year through the fourth, and the program closes with submission and defense. The degree is 50 credits, in organizational or educational leadership, with a week-long Summer Institute each summer.
Master's theses from Higher Education and Environmental Science are collected in Pillars under Graduate Theses. From 2009 to 2023, the higher education program named one thesis from each graduating class for the Timothy W. Herrmann Distinguished Thesis of the Year Award. Winning theses were often marked by a distinctive methodological design and a topic that addressed an important problem.
The Writing Center
Trained peer tutors staff the Writing Center in Zondervan Library. One-on-one sessions run from generating ideas to working through editing difficulties, and tutors work on thesis statements, organization, sentence structure, and quoting and citing sources. Non-native speakers get help with English language questions. First-time visitors register online before booking.
The center belongs to the Academic Enrichment Center, which also runs peer tutoring, first-year transition programs and disability accommodations.
A Lux et Fides submission, a capstone paper or a leadership dissertation chapter can come to our editors for a final read of grammar, consistency and format.
