Grants and Writing Resources for Tennessee State University

In April 2026, at the 40th Annual MANRRS Conference in Dallas, the College of Agriculture's MANRRS chapter was named 2026 National Chapter of the Year, first among 78 participating chapters. TSU's newsroom reports it's the first chapter from a historically Black college or university to win the title. It came after two straight third-place finishes, and more than 20 TSU undergraduate and graduate students made the trip.

Presenting Research

TSU holds its University-wide Research Symposium each year. The 48th symposium's winners list has four competitions: graduate oral, graduate poster, undergraduate oral, and undergraduate poster, judged within subject areas from agriculture and engineering to health sciences and the liberal arts. Thirty-one entries placed, 19 graduate and 12 undergraduate. At the 45th symposium in 2023, more than 100 graduate and undergraduate students presented, and cash prizes ran from $50 to $250.

Honors students compete off campus too. At the 32nd annual National Association of African American Honors Programs conference in fall 2023, TSU honors students took first and second place in the research poster competition against students from 10 other HBCUs.

Help With Writing

Master's and doctoral students can use The Writing Hub, whose contact page lists Graduate Student Services staff on the third floor of the Student Success Center. A Writing Facilitator meets with you virtually or face to face at any stage of a draft. There's also a graduate writing group, open across all majors.

The Learning Centers in the Academic Achievement and Retention Center give students help with coursework in mathematics, reading, and writing.

Theses and Dissertations

The Graduate School's Big 10 Quality Checks list what it looks at before a thesis or dissertation goes through ETD ProQuest: title page, running head, margins, abstract, committee page, headings, and the rest. Your college or department picks the style, whether APA, MLA, IEEE, or ACS. The library says most TSU theses and dissertations are freely available in Digital Scholarship @ TSU, its repository, where the ETD collection runs through 2026, and print copies sit at the circulation desk of Brown-Daniel Library.

Graduate Funding

Graduate assistantships are offered in many areas of study. Assistants work about 20 hours a week in teaching, research, or administrative roles for a monthly stipend, and most appointments cover tuition and fees.

Our editors work with TSU writers at the final-draft stage, from seminar papers to dissertations. See our Tennessee State University dissertation and thesis editing and Tennessee State University essay editing pages, or write to editors@editorsforstudents.com.
