Grants and Writing Resources for Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi
At the October 2025 Great Minds in STEM conference in San Diego, a TAMU-CC computer science Ph.D. student was named a CAHSI-Google Distinguished Scholar, an award for students who volunteer their time to make an impact in their communities. As CAHSI Advocate Training Lead at the same meeting, she ran a workshop on belonging in computing organizations.
A Research Cohort and a Campus Symposium
Students already working with a faculty mentor can join the REACH Scholars Program, a year-long cohort for undergraduates, master's and doctoral students. Scholars meet in person twice a month, develop an Individual Development Plan, practice a short research pitch and present their work at a university event. Those who finish every requirement receive a $2,000 completion stipend at the end of the spring 2027 semester.
The usual place to present is the Symposium for Student Innovation, Research, and Creative Activities. Students from every college bring oral talks, posters, exhibits and performances. Judged oral and poster presentations compete for Excellence Awards, and up to 12 Distinguished Awards go to creative inquiry, cross-disciplinary collaboration and public impact.
Competitions With Prizes
Invent for the Planet gives teams of four to six students 48 hours to pick a need statement drawn from the UN Sustainable Development Goals, build a simple prototype, film a 90-second video and pitch to judges. The local round runs in the I-Create Makerspace in the Mary and Jeff Bell Library and is open to any enrolled student, freshman through doctoral. In April 2026 the university reported that its campus winner had placed sixth worldwide and earned a trip to the global finals in Ireland.
Graduate students can enter the 3MT competition, which asks them to explain a thesis or dissertation to a non-specialist audience. Projects at any stage qualify with the chair's approval. Prizes are $1,000 for first place, $750 for second, $500 for third and $250 for People's Choice.
Graduate Honors
The Graduate Excellence Awards name an Outstanding Master's Student and an Outstanding Doctoral/MFA Student, along with mentors and an alumni honoree. Faculty, staff and students submit the nominations; self-nominations aren't accepted. Student nominees need a GPA of at least 3.75 and must have completed at least half of their graduate coursework at TAMU-CC.
Writing Center and Thesis Format
The Writing Center in Tutoring & Learning Services meets writers in GSSC 112 and online for any project "from a sentence to a dissertation." Consultants help with brainstorming, organization and APA, MLA or Chicago style, and they teach writers to spot their error patterns. The center states that its consultants do not edit or proofread. Thesis and dissertation writers can take its workshop on strategies for extended writing projects.
The Dissertation & Thesis Formatting Guidelines set one-inch margins, 12-point Times New Roman and double spacing, and offer Word templates for the chapter and section methods plus LaTeX versions. The Bell Library checks the required formatting only. Its review leaves citations, spelling, grammar and plagiarism to the writer. Doctoral students submit the final PDF through ProQuest's online submission system.
Our editors give theses, dissertations and course papers a final edit for grammar, consistency and format. See our TAMU-CC dissertation and thesis editing and TAMU-CC essay editing pages, or write to editors@editorsforstudents.com.
