Grants and Writing Resources for Trinity Evangelical Divinity School
Faculty from each TEDS department presented awards to their own students at the school's Honors and Awards Ceremony on May 4, 2023, recognizing 32 students for academic and ministry work in the 2022–23 year. Doctoral students in intercultural studies took three of the awards, among them the Paul Hiebert Prize, and a church history master's student received the Professor T.B. Madsen Thesis Award.
PhD Fellowships
TEDS offers the Ph.D. in educational, intercultural and theological studies, and the catalog puts doctoral enrollment at nearly 300. Three full-time students in those programs hold the G. Walter Hansen Fellowship at the Henry Center for Theological Understanding, an unrestricted $10,000 a year paid in two $5,000 installments. Fellows spend four to five hours a week on administrative and scholarly work for the center's director, and they attend and help publicize its events. Exceptional fellows can be renewed once, for two years in all.
The PhD Robert D. Orr Endowed Fellowship gives one full-time doctoral student up to $10,000 a year for as long as four years, for work on biblical and theological engagement with medicine and technology.
Writing Coaching and Research Help
Rolfing Library's Academic Support Services offer free writing coaching to every TIU student, for class papers and for major papers such as theses, dissertations and degree projects. Reference librarians hold research consultations. For students who want structured practice, two free Canvas courses, Essential Writing Skills for Seminary 101 and 201, take up thesis statements, research questions, synthesizing sources and drafting, with a weekly assignment that can be applied to a paper already underway.
A writing resources page for TEDS and TGS students adds a video and a handout on what graduate theological writing expects, from argument and footnotes to engaging critical scholarship.
Lectures at the Henry Center
The Henry Center hosts the Kenneth Kantzer Lectures, named for a former TEDS dean, and publishes Sapientia, an online periodical of articles by biblical scholars, theologians and pastors. Its Christ on Campus Initiative provides theological resources on contemporary issues for students.
For a final edit before submission, our PhD-level editors work with TEDS students at every level. See our Trinity Evangelical Divinity School dissertation and thesis editing and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School essay editing pages, or write to editors@editorsforstudents.com.
