Grants and Writing Resources for Universidad de Concepción
In September 2026 a master's student in mechanical engineering took the best poster award at the 19th European Symposium on Comminution and Classification in Naples. His poster reported how much energy it takes to fracture copper ore samples, measured with compact load cells and piezoelectric sensors. The Faculty of Engineering's 2026 congress grant competition for graduate students made the trip possible.
Three Minutes and One Poster
The Dirección de Postgrado runs Tesis en 3 Minutos for master's and doctoral students with a registered thesis. Entrants first send a video of no more than three minutes with one static slide, in Spanish or English. Anyone over the limit is eliminated. A jury scores clarity, delivery and the visual support, and the top three in each category present live in the final. The 2026 edition paid CLP 500,000, 300,000 and 200,000 for first, second and third place in each category.
Writing counts for a quarter of the score at Expoposter, the graduate poster meeting of the CRUCH Biobío-Ñuble universities, which the Dirección de Postgrado hosts in Concepción. The 2026 rubric weighted content at 30%, writing at 25%, organization at 25% and visual language at 20%. The 2026 bases set a CLP 150,000 prize for one poster in each OECD field.
Funding for Master's and Doctoral Work
The Becas de Postgrado UdeC come as a monthly stipend with a full tuition exemption, a stipend alone, or a tuition exemption of 100%, 50% or less. Program committees award them for at least one semester, renewable on performance to two years in a master's program or four in a doctorate. Holders teach or do research under a faculty member's supervision for two to eight hours a week. The same page lists the AMUC scholarship of the Asociación de Mujeres Universitarias de Concepción, which went to ten first-year master's students in 2026 and pays part of the program's tuition each year.
Travel support comes through the Programa de Apoyo. Students with a registered thesis and a completed study plan can request support once a semester to give an oral presentation of thesis results at a congress, conference or symposium. Doctoral students can also ask for airfare for a stay of at least a month at a research center in another country.
From Undergraduate to Graduate Study
In each undergraduate program, the graduate with the highest weighted average from the year before, at 5.7 or above on the 1 to 7 scale, receives the Premio Universidad de Concepción on the Día de la Universidad. It can cover the full tuition and enrollment of a graduate program and is used once, within two years of the award. An undergraduate with an average of at least 5.0 who is admitted to a master's or doctorate before finishing can apply for the Beca de Articulación Pregrado-Postgrado, which covers program tuition for up to four semesters. Both appear on the Dirección de Postgrado scholarship page.
Citation Help and the Thesis Deposit
Bibliotecas UdeC keeps its writing tools on the research and teaching support page: an APA 7 guide to citations and references, a guide to citing generative AI, and an EndNote license on request. Each faculty's head librarian schedules online workshops for one student or a group. Graduate students can also take the Dirección de Postgrado's courses in scientific article writing and science communication.
Each program's secretary sends the final thesis to the library as a PDF with a signed authorization letter from each author. The library's graduate deposit guide accepts only the version that follows the defense. It asks for a copyright page as page two, ORCID identifiers for the author and advisor, and a file named by surname, year and title. A thesis headed for a patent or a journal can be embargoed for 24 months. Deposited work appears in the Portal Tesis UdeC under a CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license.
For a thesis written in English, or an article going to an international journal, our editors can do a final check of grammar, consistency and format.
