Grants and Writing Resources for Universidad de Santiago de Chile
Four students in Usach's Pedagogía en Matemática y Computación program won the national final of Falling Walls Lab Valparaíso Chile 2026 on 26 August 2026. Their project, STTIE, translates what a teacher writes on the board into Braille in real time, so blind students can follow a lesson in a regular classroom. The win sends the team to the Falling Walls Lab world final in Berlin in November.
Money for Graduate Research
The Vicerrectoría de Postgrado lists its becas under one regulation, Resolution 7307 of 2022. Regular master's and doctoral students can apply for tuition exemptions of 100, 75 or 50 percent and for an annual maintenance stipend. Holders give some hours of service each week, assigned by their program. A student who takes an outside award from ANID or a similar body has to choose between it and the Usach beca. Doctoral admits from abroad who do not live in Chile compete for the Beca de Excelencia para Extranjeros, which covers full tuition and adds a yearly stipend and a one-time settling-in payment.
The Beca de Apoyo a la Investigación pays between US$500 and US$1,500 for conferences, seminars, courses and publications. In the 2023 first call, the amount depended on the destination, and applicants needed a paper accepted as lead author; doctoral students also had to have passed the qualifying exam, and master's students had to be writing a thesis or enrolled in the Seminario de Tesis. A 2024 call for the Beca Extraordinaria de Mantención para la Graduación Oportuna went to doctoral students in their ninth semester, to support writing and submitting the thesis.
Where Student Work Appears
Usach's journal portal carries titles from architecture to history. One of them opens its pages to students by name. Re-presentaciones: Periodismo, comunicación y sociedad, the semiannual journal of the Escuela de Periodismo, publishes work on journalism, communication and cultural studies by researchers, teachers and students.
Citations, Format and the Final Copy
The Sistema de Bibliotecas runs 45-minute talleres, in person or online, on APA citations and references, academic plagiarism and how to avoid it, and the RefWorks reference manager. A group of at least five students can request one by email.
Every graduating student must hand the library an electronic copy of the trabajo de titulación y/o graduación. The library's format guide sets the general rules for layout and organization and includes cover templates, and the librarian at each faculty or school checks the format. An authorization form records the author's rights and whether the work is restricted, and the library's guidelines explain how theses enter the institutional repository. The repository also holds journal articles and a historical collection of rare books from before 1980.
Before a thesis goes to your faculty librarian for the format check, our editors can give it a final edit for grammar, consistency and format.
