Grants and Writing Resources for Adelaide University
On 1 September 2026, in the Hawke Building on City Campus West, a PhD candidate won the Adelaide University Three Minute Thesis Grand Final, a contest for a $3,000 prize and the university's place in the 2026 Asia-Pacific 3MT Competition. Twelve finalists made it that far, two from each of the six colleges. The university itself is new. Adelaide University began operating in January 2026 as the legal successor to the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia, established under the Adelaide University Act 2023 (SA).
Learning Advisers and Language Support
A Learning Adviser will sit down one-on-one, in person or online, to work on academic writing, study skills and assignment planning. Students who use English as an additional language have Academic Communication in English (ACE), open to all coursework students. There's also a self-paced Student Learning Resources Hub with guides on academic writing and referencing, and a semester calendar of workshops and drop-ins on assignment expectations and academic integrity.
Scholarships for Research Degrees
PhD and MPhil candidates in every discipline can hold an Adelaide University Research Scholarship or Research Training Program Scholarship. Each carries a stipend and a 100% tuition fee waiver, plus allowances for relocation, for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates and for Overseas Student Health Cover where they apply.
Funding continues after enrolment. The Graduate Research School's scholarship and funding opportunities include in-candidature rounds that help researchers attend conferences, undertake fieldwork or manage unforeseen setbacks, and travel scholarships for fieldwork, conferences and work with other institutions, listed in the university's scholarship database when they're open. Top-ups from philanthropy, industry and research grants usually need a separate application.
The Three Minute Thesis
The Three Minute Thesis is run by the Graduate Research School with the Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre. PhD candidates get three minutes and one slide. The audience votes for a People's Choice winner, in the room or online.
Publishing and the Repository
Adelaide Research and Scholarship (AR&S) is the Adelaide University digital repository, holding the university community's research outputs and digital collections, with deposits made through Aurora. For researchers deciding where to publish, the Library offers workshops and one-to-one consultations, an open access publishing guide, and guidance on using Read and Publish agreements to publish open access.
