Grants and Writing Resources for the University of Delhi

A Ph.D. scholar in DU's Department of Geology co-wrote, with Prof. Vimal Singh and Prof. S. K. Tandon, "Two Centuries of Hydrogeomorphic changes: Width-discharge dynamics of urbanised Yamuna River in Delhi," a paper in the Journal of the Geological Society of India. The department posted the news on July 22, 2026, and several newspapers carried the study.

Book Grants and Master's Scholarships

The university's scholarship list includes book grants for first-year undergraduates. The Puran Chand Khatri Book-Grant goes to students in the first year of a three-year degree, and the Dr. V.K.R.V. Rao Endowment Book-Grant is for first-year students from the families of Delhi University employees. Three more, the Shri Moti Lal Kaul Aima Memorial, Shri Ram Lubhaya and Vijender Sharmila Chopra book grants, are set aside for blind students.

First-year postgraduates can apply for the All India Post-Graduate Scholarships and the University Post-Graduate Scholarships. Departmental awards are made on a department's recommendation. The Datta Memorial Scholarship is for postgraduate students of English, the Balmokand Arsh Malsiani Memorial Scholarship for M.A. Urdu, and the Moses Fellowship for M.A. Social Work Part-II. M.A. Economics has several, including the Datia Darbar Endowment Scholarship and the Professor Naqvi Memorial Scholarship.

Funding for Doctoral Research

The Sungum Sudhaar Scholarship Endowment supports Ph.D. students in the Department of Philosophy whose research is in Ancient Indian Thought and draws on Sanskrit and history. Under the endowment's 2018 notification, each Sungum Sudhaar Research Scholar receives ₹16,000 a month for up to three years or until the thesis is submitted, whichever comes first. A selection committee chaired by the Pro-Vice Chancellor picks the scholars.

Other doctoral awards appear on the departmental scholarship list. Ph.D. students in African Studies are eligible for the Professor Daleep Singh Endowment Bursaries, and the Dr. Virendra B. Mahesh Award is listed for Ph.D. work in organic chemistry. At ACBR, the Prof. HC Gaur Scholarship is open to M.Sc. and Ph.D. students in biomedical science.

Library Help and a Student Law Review

ShodhSarthi, the research support service of the Delhi University Library System, books one-on-one and group sessions with research librarians on literature reviews, reference management, citation styles and open access publishing. It also runs workshops on academic writing and research ethics. Its web guides cover about 80 research-skill topics.

The Faculty of Law posts the archive of the Delhi Law Review (Student Edition), from Volume I, dated 2004, to Volume VIII, for 2020-21.

Rules for the Ph.D. Thesis

Under Ordinance VI, as amended in 2023, a scholar publishes at least two research papers in Scopus or UGC-CARE listed journals and gives a pre-Ph.D. presentation to the Research Advisory Committee before submitting. The ordinance asks that the thesis be "satisfactory as far as its language and presentation are concerned." Three external examiners evaluate it.

Every thesis goes through a similarity check before submission. The library runs theses through Drillbit-Extreme, supplied by INFLIBNET under the ShodhShuddhi programme, and the Central Library issues the certificate. The university's verification guidelines leave references, the bibliography, acknowledgements and attributed quotations out of the count. A signed Student Approval Form lets the university host the thesis on Shodhganga.

A scholar preparing a thesis for submission, or a student finishing a term paper, can send it to our editors for a final check of grammar, consistency and format.
