Grants and Writing Resources for University of Ghana
Law students at the University of Ghana won the national 2025 Jessup Ghana Moot Court Competition in February 2025, beating six other law schools. The University of Ghana School of Law team also took the Best Memorial Award for its written submissions and produced the competition's Best Oralist. That result put it in the international round in Washington, D.C.
Fellowships and Graduate Awards
The University of Ghana Graduate Research Fund (UGGRF), set up in 2025, gives partial funding to MPhil and PhD candidates during the implementation phase of thesis research, when a lack of resources can hold up completion. Its first cycle, announced in February 2026, funded three PhD and six MPhil students.
Finished work is recognised too. The 2023/2024 Vice-Chancellor's Academic Awards handed out 180 prizes to 142 graduates and continuing students across the four colleges, with a minimum cash award of GHC 4,659 for each recipient. Among them are the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation awards, one for the Humanities and one for the Sciences.
Dissertation Support
The School of Graduate Studies ran a three-day Thesis Writing Bootcamp for final-year MPhil students in late 2024 and held another three-day MPhil bootcamp in June 2026. At the 2024 bootcamp, each day held three 90-minute writing blocks with students asked to put their phones away, plus consultations on qualitative and quantitative analysis, an EndNote session, and a recorded talk on turning your writing into a publication.
Through the Pan-African Doctoral Academy, the School also runs Knowledge and Skills Enhancement workshops in research methods, data analysis and thesis writing. So far 297 graduate students from the sciences and humanities have taken part.
