Grants and Writing Resources for University of Phoenix
The College of Doctoral Studies chose four winners from 39 nominees for its 2026 Dissertation of the Year Award, one each in education, health administration, business administration and management. The education winner studied self-care, stress and burnout among Midwest middle school teachers, and the management winner looked at what successful VA prosthetic leaders do. In 2025 there were 34 nominees, and two of the four winners came from the Doctor of Health Administration program.
Presenting Research
Doctoral students have their own presentation slots at the Knowledge Without Boundaries Research Summit, which Phoenix holds online and which draws more than 700 participants. Presenters receive digital badges. Day Two carries the Dissertation of the Year ceremony and the winners' talks.
The 2025 summit, the twelfth, had more than 90 speakers, the largest lineup in its history.
From Dissertation to Journal Article
Phoenix's Dissertation to Publication workshop has run since 2017. Over four months of monthly online meetings, participants rebuild a dissertation as a journal manuscript, and a committee of reviewers works through revisions with them before submission to a peer-reviewed journal. As of July 2026, 813 participants had completed it and 724 manuscripts had gone to journals. The $250 registration fee is waived for students, alumni, faculty and staff who register with a phoenix.edu email. Authors who'd rather work at their own pace can choose Individual Support instead and get a reviewer and target journal suggestions.
Research Help for Doctoral Students
The Research Methodology Group, hosted by the College of Doctoral Studies, books students and faculty into one-on-one office hours with a methodologist. It also runs design webinars, and its channels on Teams take design questions and answer them asynchronously, with short videos on tools such as SPSS posted there too.
The Research Hub's doctoral student resources also point to CDS Central for dissertation requirements and to a bi-monthly virtual CDS Student Coffee Chat. Research drawing on Phoenix's own people or data needs approval from the Committee on Research. Searching starts at the UOPX Library, with an Ask Us service and How Do I guides on search strategy and evaluating sources.
Writing Support
Phoenix's Center for Writing Excellence is open around the clock, all year. It has a reference and citation generator, writing templates and samples, grammar help and guidance on using generative AI. Doctoral writers get a separate set of dissertation writing resources. English-language learners have grammar tutorials of their own.
Honor Societies
Phoenix lists eleven honor societies among its recognized student organizations, several tied to a college. Delta Mu Delta's virtual Lambda Sigma Chapter admits business students from the bachelor's through the doctoral level, the doctoral bar set at a 3.86 GPA and the top 20 percent. Nursing students are invited to Sigma Theta Tau's Omicron Delta Chapter each January, and criminal justice and security students can join Eta Theta, the university's Alpha Phi Sigma chapter. Golden Key is open to graduate students after one completed course with a 3.7.
