Grants and Writing Resources for Upper Iowa University

At the Honors & Awards Banquet on April 11, 2026, at the Fayette Campus, Upper Iowa students received more than $500,000 in scholarships through 252 individual recognitions. The funds support students during the 2026-27 academic year.

Honors Projects and Theses

The Csomay Honors Program invites applicants with at least a 26 ACT and a 3.5 high school GPA, and others can apply if they make a strong case. Honors courses are interdisciplinary and require advanced writing. Seniors complete an Honors project and a thesis in their area of interest, and finishing the program earns University Honors.

Juniors and seniors build those projects in HON 399 Honors Research, a one-credit pass/fail course that can be repeated up to three credits. Students present the finished project publicly in HON 499 Honors Senior Symposium, the program's capstone.

Writing and Research Help

The Writing Center offers Email Tutoring, which returns detailed written feedback on a draft, and Virtual Consultations with a trained Writing Consultant, with evening and weekend hours. Consultants cover formatting and citation in AP, APA, Chicago and MLA styles.

For other subjects, the Tutor Center holds free Zoom sessions with professional and peer tutors, and TutorMe, free to UIU students, has tutors available around the clock and answers asynchronous writing requests within 12 hours. The Henderson-Wilder Library runs information literacy sessions for classes and individuals and keeps its databases open to online and center students. LibChat connects students with an external librarian outside office hours.

Master's Capstones and Graduate Aid

UIU's online master's programs cover business administration, counseling, education, healthcare administration, psychology and public administration. MBA students finish with BA 590 Research Seminar, a three-credit capstone. In the Master of Education, EDU 590 Capstone Seminar requires an issue analysis research paper in the student's emphasis area, and the 2026-27 M.Ed. handbook calls for APA 7th edition in all graduate courses.

UIU alumni get $200 off each graduate course taken within two years of earning their bachelor's degree through the SOAR Scholarship; the Master of Education is excluded, since its tuition is already set for affordability. Spouses and dependents of active-duty, reserve and National Guard members pay $325 a credit hour for graduate courses under the Military Family Grant.

An honors thesis or capstone paper due for its last review can come to us for a final edit of grammar, consistency and APA format. See our Upper Iowa University dissertation and thesis editing and Upper Iowa University essay editing pages, or write to editors@editorsforstudents.com.
