Grants and Writing Resources for Walsh University

At the Maroon & Gold Weekend football game on September 19, 2026, a senior wide receiver majoring in business marketing and professional sales received the Joshua David Zimmerman Memorial Scholarship for the second year in a row. The award goes each year to a Walsh football player who shows integrity, character and commitment on and off the field. It honors a 2001 graduate and defensive captain, and his father presented it.

The Honors Thesis

Every student in the Walsh Honors Program writes a senior thesis, and each finished thesis is catalogued in the Walsh library and on OhioLINK. The groundwork comes a year earlier. The Junior Honors Project is usually a literature review tied to the student's field and goals, written under a faculty advisor the student chooses, and it helps settle the thesis topic.

The thesis can be an independent research study, an applied project or a creative work. It ends in a publishable paper and a talk to the campus community; abstracts from spring 2021 through spring 2026 are posted on the Senior Thesis Presentations page. The program also issues Honorable Mention, a fall and spring publication on program happenings and student experiences, which reached Volume 9 with its spring 2026 issue.

Scholarships for Enrolled Students

Walsh's Advancement Scholarships for 2026–2027 list about 55 donor-funded awards. Many call for full-time status or a set class standing, and several, including the Alumni Grants and the Walsh Women's Committee Endowed Scholarship, are open only to current Walsh students. Nursing students have the Alex Botsch Nursing Scholarship among others. Writers should note the Patriot Project Endowed Scholarship, which asks for a 500-word essay on chiropractors serving in the military.

Graduate students appear on the same list. The Monsignor Lewis F. Gaetano Teaching Corps Endowed Scholarship supports graduate study in education, requires a 3.0 GPA, prefers students who plan to teach in underserved Catholic schools, and is capped at $5,000 per year in the 2026–2027 listing. The Dr. Sandra Lopez-Baez Scholarship goes to students in the M.A. in Counseling and Human Development who have completed 15 graduate credits.

Admission to Honors carries a scholarship. Everyone accepted to the Honors Program receives a renewable $24,000 scholarship or a full-tuition scholarship, and the full-tuition awards are limited and competitive.

Tutoring and Library Help

Writing is one of the subjects covered by free one-on-one tutoring at the Academic Support Center. Sessions run online for 30 or 60 minutes, and students can upload drafts, syllabi and rubrics when they book. If a subject isn't listed, the center says it can recruit a tutor.

For sources and citations, the Brother Edmond Drouin Library helps with journal database searches, OhioLINK resources and research, citation and plagiarism questions, as listed under Academic Services.
