Grants and Writing Resources for Western New England University
Three students from the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences presented posters at the 2026 American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Annual Meeting in Grapevine, Texas. One study reviewed the websites and course catalogs of accredited U.S. pharmacy programs and found that 38% cover complementary and alternative medicine, including herbal products and dietary supplements, in sufficient depth. The other surveyed participants on their knowledge and perceptions of genetics and pharmacogenomics.
Research With Faculty
Faculty-mentored projects at WNE have drawn national grants. In April 2026 the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation awarded two Pediatric Oncology Student Training grants of $5,000 each to faculty mentors for their students' summer research on high-risk neuroblastoma. One supports an undergraduate's project on calcium signaling and survival pathways. The other supports a student in the Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences program studying how metastatic relapse is promoted.
Doctoral research follows the committee model. The PhD in Industrial Engineering is thesis-based and ends in an independent research project and dissertation, with course requirements set by the student's doctoral committee. Students in the PhD in Behavior Analysis write dissertations and review papers in formats meant to ease submission for publication. That program has stopped accepting new applicants, and current students keep access to courses and academic support.
Honors Work in Print
The Honors Program runs through the College of Arts and Sciences, the Kevin S. Delbridge College of Business and the College of Engineering. In the Arts and Sciences Honors Program, students take one Honors course each semester for their first three years and complete an Honors project as seniors. There is no added tuition.
Honors writing has reached a national readership. In January 2026 WNE announced that an Honors student, a recent alumna and a philosophy professor had published an article in Honors in Practice, an annual journal for Honors programs. The piece took two years to research and write. It traces the campus Meditation Garden Project from an Honors philosophy class assignment to a student-built space, and incoming Honors cohorts now read it in their first Honors coursework.
A Summer Fellowship in FinTech
MassMutual and Country Bank sponsor WNE's Summer Innovation Fellowship, which reached its third year in 2026. Its startup teams build ventures aimed at problems in the financial industry. Two WNE students on the 2026 roster built a verifiable credit score for people without access to conventional credit-building opportunities, drawing on validation from nonprofits, recovery programs and social workers. Another WNE student built a verified student-to-student campus delivery platform with two partners from Universidad de los Andes in Colombia.
