Grants and Writing Resources for Widener University
Biology, computer science, marketing and communication studies all turned up among the presentations at Widener's 33rd annual Honors Week in spring 2026, where more than 40 students presented over five days. They weren't all honors students. First-year students were eligible to present that spring.
Summer Research and Honors Week
The Summer Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (SURCA) program pairs undergraduates with faculty mentors for summer projects and builds a student-faculty learning community around them. At the annual SURCA Symposium, students and faculty from all of Widener's colleges and schools present their projects in the University Center Atrium, and an awards ceremony follows. The 15th symposium in 2024 brought the largest cohort in the program's history: 95 student researchers and 70 posters from more than 25 programs, with 47 faculty advisors.
Spring brings Honors Week, which adds honor society inductions and science achievement awards to the student presentations.
Writing Support
The Writing Center, on the first floor of the Old Main Annex, gives free one-on-one help to undergraduate and graduate students in person on weekdays and over Zoom on Monday-through-Thursday evenings. Faculty work with writers on any assignment, regardless of the course. They cover brainstorming, thesis development, research and citations, grammar and style, organization, draft reviews and design and layout, and they advise on ethical and responsible use of AI in writing. Student mentors help writers find sources in Widener's academic databases.
Dissertations at Wolfgram Library
Wolfgram Memorial Library is the headquarters for dissertation submission. Under its dissertation procedures, a faculty or staff reviewer checks each dissertation for APA formatting, and the library submits the final version to ProQuest and publishes it in its Archives Digital Collections. The library prints no physical copies for its own collection. It also tracks embargoed dissertations until they're due to be published.
For research help before that stage, the library's Research Office takes drop-in questions, and students can book appointments with liaison librarians during their office hours.
If you'd like an editor's eye on a thesis chapter or a research paper before it goes out, we can help. See our Widener University dissertation and thesis editing and Widener University essay editing pages, or write to editors@editorsforstudents.com.
